PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Marcus Wood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Hammer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Wood might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to one hitta quitta. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Marcus Wood!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dan Hammer!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good standup being displayed there by Wood as he connects with a hook.
Wood throws a right and a left that both miss.
Wood stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Wood wants it to stay on the feet.

Hammer drives through and clinches with Wood against the cage.
Hammer is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Hammer pulls guard effortlessly.
Wood has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Wood postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Wood would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Hammer is on top in guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Hammer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wood, up you get!

Hammer gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Wood missing with knees to the body.

Hammer gets a nice trip takedown into half guard.

Hammer seems to be working for a kimura but Wood defends the submission attempt.

Hammer is working for a kimura but Wood is defending it quite comfortably.

Hammer is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Wood doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Hammer.
Wood is trying to stand up here but Hammer is controlling him well.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Hammer escapes and gets back to his feet.
Wood lands a lovely overhand right.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Hammer fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Wood to the ground. Hammer is now in Wood's guard.
Hammer passes Wood's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Hammer stands up from half guard.
Hammer fails with the takedown.
Marcus Wood has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Dan Hammer.
Hammer misses with a takedown
and Wood cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hammer.
A punch lands to the side of Hammer 's head but he takes it in his stride.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wood scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Wood tries to close the distance and clinch up but Hammer swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Dan Hammer seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Hammer avoids a punch combination nicely.
Hammer keeps the fight on the outside.
Hammer throws a head kick that misses.
Hammer takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


Hammer is rocked!

Hammer drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Hammer is still in real trouble! Can Wood finish him?

Hammer drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Wood dives on top into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hammer looks gassed!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Wood stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hammer swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Hammer is pulling down on Wood's head to control his posture.
Hammer seems to have recovered his senses.
Wood working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wood trying to move into half guard but instead Hammer has managed to sweep!

Hammer is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Hammer drops back looking for a leg! Wood is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Wood manages to kick Hammer off! Hammer jumps back into Wood's guard.

Hammer decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Wood, up you get!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Wood throws out a loose jab but Hammer uses good head movement to avoid it.

Hammer pushes Wood up against the cage in a clinch.
Hammer is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hammer throws a knee to the head but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dan Hammer dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Wood throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Hammer on the side of the head.
Wood swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Hammer fails to land the takedown.
Hammer looks for a takedown but Wood sprawls well.
Hammer misses with a kick to the body
and Wood makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.

Hammer gets a clinch.
Hammer stops a takedown attempt from Wood.
Hammer has had enough of the clinch but Wood keeps him there for the moment.
Wood throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
With the two fighters working up against the cage, Wood just misses with a elbow thrown towards Hammer's brow.
Wood lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Hammer tries to work over Wood's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Hammer takes an elbow to the forehead.
Wood lands a big knee to the head and Hammer goes down! Wood pounces and finishes the fight with strikes! He jumps to his feet and celebrates with the crowd!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Marcus Wood!
Marcus Wood decided to thank the fans in attendance for making a great atmosphere. It seemed to go down pretty well.
