PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Donny Breedlove (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kota Punga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kota Punga told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Donny Breedlove!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Kota Punga!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Chris Saunders and Colin Fray.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Breedlove throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Punga will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Breedlove closes this distance looking for a takedown but Punga circles away.
Breedlove tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Punga paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Breedlove slaps away a takedown attempt from Punga, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Punga shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Breedlove decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Punga's guard.
Donny Breedlove has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Kota Punga.
Breedlove postures up in Punga's guard and throws a big left but Punga blocks it.
Breedlove wants to stand but Punga has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Breedlove throws a strike but Punga rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Punga thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Breedlove is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Punga is controlling him.
Punga looking to sit in guard and control but Breedlove gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Punga has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Breedlove doesn't defend quickly enough and Punga has managed to lock this one up! Can Breedlove escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Punga on a fantastic submission victory.
