PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Star Fighter (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Star Fighter has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Star Fighter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fighter darts in trying to clinch

and Diaz moves into the clinch.
Fighter landing some nice looking knees to the body.

Diaz breaks from the clinch.
Diaz is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Fighter fails with an attempt to clinch.
Diaz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Fighter.

Diaz drives through with a takedown into Fighter's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Fighter wants to sweep but no luck.
Diaz not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dick Diaz hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Diaz gets a takedown into half guard.
Fighter trying to hold on to Diaz's head to control him but Diaz postures up.
Diaz is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Diaz not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Diaz keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Diaz looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Fighter won't allow Diaz to pass to mount.
Fighter might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Diaz tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Fighter.
Diaz misses with a head shot. Fighter uses the momentum to regain guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Diaz won't allow Fighter to sweep him here.

Fighter has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Diaz is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Fighter.
Diaz lands a nice forearm strike.
Fighter is breathing heavily.

Diaz tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Fighter is trying to control Diaz's posture but Diaz avoids it.
Diaz lands some shots froms side control.

Diaz stands up and beckons Fighter to his feet.
Fighter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Diaz tries to avoid it but Fighter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Diaz to the ground. Diaz escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Diaz fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Fighter, pushing him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Diaz's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Diaz dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Fighter has his takedown stuffed

and Diaz counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Diaz controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Fighter controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
Diaz slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Fighter is looking for a sweep.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Fighter knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Fighter misses with a takedown attempt

and Diaz counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Diaz.
Diaz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Diaz must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Diaz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Fighter gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Diaz tries a head kick but it misses.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Fighter enables Diaz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Fighter manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Fighter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Diaz tries to free his leg and advance position but Fighter is retaining full guard.

Diaz stands up from guard. Let's bang!

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Diaz cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Fighter is in all sorts of trouble here.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Fighter is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dick Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Fighter bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Diaz is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Diaz is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Diaz drops an elbow to the side of Fighter's head.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Diaz lands a nice short elbow.

Fighter wants to control but Diaz is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Diaz wants to pass to mount but Fighter is defending the position.

Fighter is defending against the submission attempts here by Diaz.
Fighter pushes Diaz off looking to stand but Diaz dives back in and keeps control.
Diaz working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Diaz is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Fighter is just riding it out for now. Diaz eventually gives up the hold.

Diaz stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Fighter to get to his feet.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Dick Diaz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Fighter had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Diaz defends it easily.

Dick Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Diaz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
