Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Steve Dowal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tim Riggins!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Ryoma Takatsuka and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dowal closes the distance and clinches up with Riggins, looking for a takedown. Dowal pushes Riggins against the cage but Riggins circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Dowal tries to close the distance and clinch but Riggins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Riggins fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Dowal checks it well.
Riggins displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Dowal.

Dowal drives through with a takedown into guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Dowal throwing strikes but missing.

Dowal postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Riggins is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Dowal, into his guard.

Riggins stands up and waves to Dowal to follow him.
Dowal looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Steve Dowal. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Riggins missing with a left hand there. Dowal was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Dowal slips a jab and a cross from Riggins.
Dowal avoids a punch combination nicely.
Dowal shoots in for a double leg but Riggins sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Riggins throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dowal swats away the attempt to clinch by Riggins.
Riggins throws a nice looking combination but Dowal bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Dowal shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Riggins pinned against the cage. Riggins gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Riggins throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Dowal throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Riggins's waist but Riggins gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dowal off to one side.

Dowal gets the takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Dowal swings around for an armbar but Riggins sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Dowal's guard.

Dowal has a closed guard, preventing Riggins from standing up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dowal escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Riggins gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Riggins is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Dowal has his foot on Riggins's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Riggins works his way back into a safe position though.

Dowal looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Riggins throws a big right hand that misses.
Riggins lands a couple of elbows.
Riggins is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Dowal keeping moving, preventing Riggins from controlling successfully.
Riggins must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Riggins stands up from Dowal's guard - Riggins perhaps looking for a knockout.
Riggins throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Dowal.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dowal dodges the punch combination from Riggins.
Dowal fails to land the takedown.
Riggins keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Riggins rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Dowal moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Riggins swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Dowal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Riggins as he avoids it easily.
Dowal moves out of range of the leg kick from Riggins.
Riggins fails in his attempt to clinch.
Dowal shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Riggins defends it nicely.
Dowal tries to close the distance and clinch but Riggins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Dowal.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Dowal takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Riggins leaves Dowal with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Riggins throws a series of punches but Dowal moves out of range.

Dowal has Riggins up against the cage in a clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Riggins fails to land.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Riggins.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Riggins works on Dowal's body with a couple of short punches.
Dowal using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Riggins has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Dowal is breathing heavily.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Dowal tries to pull guard but Riggins forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Riggins breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Riggins fails with an attempt to clinch.
Riggins throws a shot from downtown. Dowal moves away and avoids it.
Dowal tries to move into range but Riggins moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Tim Riggins will probably get the nod.
That's time! Dowal's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Riggins tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Riggins misses with a few strikes there.
Riggins moves in looking to clinch but Dowal pushes him off.

Riggins closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Riggins lands a body punch.
Dowal is trying to pull guard but Riggins turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Dowal manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Dowal has a closed guard, preventing Riggins from standing up.

Dowal pushes a forearm under Riggins's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Riggins is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Steve Dowal!
