PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Joseph Ddd (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Liam Howlett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Howlett comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Prodigy - Run With the Wolves kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the light heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Joseph Ddd!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Liam Howlett!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Roger Salmon and Paul Gruel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Howlett fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Ddd sprawls well initially but Howlett persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Ddd controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
Ddd makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ddd.
Ddd pulls Howlett in to control the position.
Howlett throws an elbow that misses. Ddd uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Howlett's guard. Nice move by Ddd!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ddd tries to free his leg and advance position but Howlett is retaining full guard.
Ddd forces his way into half guard.

Ddd looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ddd is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Howlett wants to get back to full guard.
Howlett really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ddd. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ddd is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Howlett defends it well.
Ddd slips a nice elbow through Howlett's hands, connecting with Howlett's forehead.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ddd wants to work for an arm triangle but Howlett is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Ddd is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Howlett sees it coming and defends easily.

Ddd is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Howlett has managed to free his arm - good work.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ddd looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Ddd wants to pass to mount but Howlett is defending the position.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ddd lands a nice short elbow.

Howlett actively working from the bottom here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ddd is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Howlett defends it well.

Ddd seems to be looking for submissions.

Ddd is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Howlett is just riding it out for now. Ddd eventually gives up the hold.

Ddd is working for a kimura but Howlett is defending it quite comfortably.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ddd wants to work for an arm triangle but Howlett is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Joseph Ddd dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck for Ddd with that takedown attempt.
Howlett looks to clinch

and Ddd counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ddd stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howlett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Howlett can't keep his opponent in guard - Ddd advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Ddd is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Howlett doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ddd.

Howlett is defending against the submission attempts here by Ddd.

Ddd is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Ddd passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Howlett!
Howlett tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Ddd working for a submission but Howlett is keeping him at bay.

Howlett defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Ddd.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Howlett is trying desperately to improve position.

Ddd working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Howlett is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Howlett is wriggling around trying to escape.

Howlett is squirming around, avoiding Ddd's attempts to control the action.

Ddd is working for a guillotine from mount but Howlett frees his head quite easily.
Howlett can't escape the position.

Ddd has control of Howlett's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Howlett regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Howlett is flailing around, obviously not happy about being mounted. Ddd locks hold of one of his arms and spins for an armbar. He's got it! Howlett is forced to tap!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joseph Ddd!
Joseph Ddd is the new light heavyweight champion!
Joseph Ddd decided to call for a title shot in his post fight interview, which was very strange given the fact this fight was for a title and he's already the champion. I guess that's what getting punched in the head does for you.
