Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the middleweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Din Thomas!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Romulo Mendes!
The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Felipe Paraventi and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Mendes back to the ropes. Thomas follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Mendes shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Thomas counters with a left and a right that hurts Mendes! He wobbles and falls to the floor - he's in big trouble! Thomas jumps into full mount!


Mendes is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Thomas content just to control the position here.
Mendes is still in real trouble! Can Thomas finish him?
Mendes seems to have recovered his senses.
Mendes keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thomas looking to control and managing it successfully.

We're going to have a standup here because Din Thomas wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Mendes fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Mendes ducks under a wild hook from Thomas.
Thomas misses with a two punch combination.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Thomas sprawls well. Thomas wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Mendes gets slowly back to his feet.
Left hook, right uppercut from Thomas.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mendes is defended easily by Thomas.
Din Thomas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Romulo Mendes.
Thomas fails to land with a series of punches.
Thomas throws a right and a left that both miss.

Mendes feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Mendes trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Thomas is looking to stand up but Mendes isn't so interested in that idea.

Thomas is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Thomas bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Mendes's guard.

Mendes looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Mendes is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mendes being controlled here, momentarily.

Thomas stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Thomas scores with a takedown into Mendes's guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Mendes keeping moving, preventing Thomas from controlling successfully.

Thomas stands up and waves to Mendes to follow him.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Mendes shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Thomas but Thomas pushes him off and we're back to square one.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Din Thomas dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A combination from Thomas does no damage.
Thomas looks to land a right hand but Mendes moved out of range.
Thomas takes a swing at Mendes's ribcage but misses.
Sloppy strikes from Thomas. Those never looked like landing.
Thomas throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Thomas just misses with a punch to the body.
Mendes with a poor takedown
and Mendes takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Mendes is trying hard to land a takedown here. Thomas sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Thomas misses with a wild body shot.
Thomas scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!

That's one minute gone in the round.
Mendes shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Thomas as he avoids it easily.
Din Thomas has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Romulo Mendes.

Mendes closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Thomas quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Thomas has one foot on Mendes's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Thomas lands a nice shot that snaps Mendes's head back.
Thomas lands a slapping body shot.
Mendes walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush.
Thomas looks to land a combination. Mendes sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Mendes gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Thomas counters with a series of strikes that really hurt Mendes! The ref looks into his eyes and sees nobody home - he's called the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:54 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Din Thomas!
Din Thomas retains his middleweight title!
Din Thomas was full of energy after the big win and talked about how he thinks he can do big things in this sport. The crowd were appreciative of his determination to succeed.
