Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between CJ Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Duncan Rangihuna (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, CJ Smith!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Duncan Rangihuna!
The judges for this bout are Winston Howard, Hugh Johnson and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rangihuna smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Smith throws a lazy head kick

and Rangihuna counters with a single leg into guard. Smith didn't expect that.
Smith has a closed guard, preventing Rangihuna from standing up.
Rangihuna controls from within his opponent's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Smith is looking for a triangle here but Rangihuna uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Rangihuna working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Rangihuna decides to stand up, so the ref orders Smith to his feet.
Smith tries to land a body kick

and Rangihuna counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Smith looking for a guillotine here but Rangihuna defends easily.

Smith is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Rangihuna is aware though and is defending well.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Smith throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Rangihuna escapes and throws Smith's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Rangihuna throwing shots but missing, from side control.
Rangihuna content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Rangihuna throws a strike aimed at the side of Smith's head but Smith avoids it well.
Rangihuna works to advance to full mount. Smith defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.
Rangihuna takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Poor strikes thrown by Rangihuna there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Smith is looking to improve his position but Rangihuna isn't that keen on the idea.
Rangihuna thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.
Rangihuna unloads with some shots from mount but Smith bucks and avoids them well.

Rangihuna working for a submission but Smith is keeping him at bay.
Rangihuna thowing shots but they're missing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Smith is looking to improve his position but Rangihuna isn't that keen on the idea.

Rangihuna has hold of Smith's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Smith manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smith keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Rangihuna controlling the position easily from mount.
Smith is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Smith really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Smith wants to hold on but Rangihuna pushes him away.
Smith is looking to improve his position but Rangihuna isn't that keen on the idea.
Rangihuna throws some wild stikes that Smith manages to avoid easily.
Smith wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Rangihuna.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rangihuna looking to ground and pound but Smith is blocking nicely.
Smith is looking to get to half guard.
Rangihuna controlling from the full mount.
Smith tries to improve his position but instead Rangihuna has taken his back!
Rangihuna keeps control of the position easily here as Smith tries to buck him off.
It looks like Rangihuna might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Smith avoids the strikes from Rangihuna.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Duncan Rangihuna dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Smith tries a head kick but it misses.
Smith throws a sloppy head kick and Rangihuna moves out of range easily.
Smith tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Rangihuna manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Rangihuna throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Smiths head.

Rangihuna gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Duncan Rangihuna has got the better of the ground game so far.

Smith pushes a forearm under Rangihuna's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rangihuna is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). CJ Smith!
