PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Akbahi King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dev Greek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dev Greek struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Dev Greek!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Roger Salmon.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Greek gets caught napping as King dives in and scores a takedown. Greek manages to retain guard.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
King engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Greek for as long as he can get away with.
King wants to get up but he can't break Greek's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Akbahi King just wasn't active enough.

King takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
King tries to clinch but Greek is having none of it.

King drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Greek is looking for a sweep.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.

King decides to stand up, so the ref orders Greek to his feet.

King closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.

King manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Greek on his heels. He'll look to pass Greek's guard now, I'm sure.

King gets to his feet. Greek looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

King not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Greek throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
King walks into a jab.

and King counters with a nice double leg into side control. Greek won't be happy with that.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.

King shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than King was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Greek tries to get back to half guard but can't.
King is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Greek can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

King has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Greek takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

King is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Greek can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

King has his opponent pinned against the ropes, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Greek's face.

Greek misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Greek throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

King closes the distance and clinches.

King tries for a takedown. No joy.

King breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

King forces Greek back against the ropes and clinches.
Greek is trying to force a seperation but King has the dominant position.

Greek escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dev Greek seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
King doesn't manage to clinch there - Greek circles away.
Greek misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Greek takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

King is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

The fight stays on the outside here - King looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Greek looks to score with a jab to the body but King is just out of range.
Akbahi King is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

King moves into the clinch successfully.
King takes a knee to the side of the body.
King keeps control of Greek as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Greek lands a good knee to the midsection. King won't want to take too many of those.
Greek tries to circle away but King has him pinned against the ropes.

King jumps guard and drags Greek to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
King wants to stand but Greek is controlling the position.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Greek.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for King, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
