PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kanki Onki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bernard Chapin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Chapin's choice of entrance music: Eminence Front-The Who. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Kanki Onki!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Bernard Chapin!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Alyssa Summers and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Chapin wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Chapin scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Nice body punch from Chapin.

Onki moves into the clinch.

Onki breaks from the clinch.
No luck for Onki with that takedown attempt.
Onki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Chapin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Onki moves into the clinch successfully.
Chapin is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Onki pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Chapin is looking for a takedown.
Chapin lands with a right to the head.

Chapin has Onki pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Chapin pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Onki tumbling to the mat - Chapin dives into Onki's guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Chapin won't allow Onki to sweep him here.

Onki bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Chapin's guard.
Onki throws a big right hand that misses.
Onki has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Chapin escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Onki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Onki wants to get up but he can't break Chapin's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Onki wants to control from the top but Chapin keeps moving.

Onki wants to stand but Chapin is controlling his posture from full guard.
Onki content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Onki trying to control the position from guard on top but Chapin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Onki tries to free his leg and advance position but Chapin is retaining full guard.
Chapin is trying to keep Onki in close.

Onki bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Onki forces Chapin back against the cage and clinches.
Chapin has Onki pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Onki manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Chapin is trying to stand.
Onki working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Onki stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Chapin to get to his feet.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Kanki Onki overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Onki is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Chapin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Chapin's back!

Onki is not going to allow Chapin to sit and survive in this position.
Onki is riding his opponent, not letting Chapin buck him off.

I really don't envy Chapin right now.
Onki has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Chapin's body.

Chapin staying busy and making it hard for Onki to control.

Onki tries to clinch up but Chapin circles away and keeps his distance.
Chapin works over Onki's head and body with a nice combination.
Onki dives in and grabs Chapin's left leg, looking for a takedown. Chapin pushes down on Onki's head and hops out.
Onki takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Onki fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kanki Onki. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Chapin doesn't manage to clinch there - Onki circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Chapin. No joy for Onki on that attempt.
Onki on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Onki shoots and misses
and Chapin counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Onki here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Onki fails to land the takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Onki looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.

Chapin has taken the fight to the clinch.
Chapin is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Onki is defending well.

Onki wants to control from the top but Chapin keeps moving.
Onki stops Chapin from standing up.
Chapin is trying to keep Onki in close.
Chapin wants to sweep here but Onki controlling him for the moment.

Onki stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Bernard Chapin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nice sprawl there from Chapin as Onki shoots in.
Onki tries to move into range but Chapin moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.

Onki has taken the fight to the clinch.
Chapin is trying to maintain a safe position but Onki gets an underhook and turns Chapin into the cage.
Chapin wants to break free but Onki has control.
Chapin looking to stall.
A frustrated look appears on Chapin's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Chapin is trying to force a seperation but Onki has the dominant position.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Chapin has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Onki after a bit of a struggle.

Chapin is fighting off a takedown attempt but Onki is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Chapin to the mat. Chapin regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.

Onki is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Chapin is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Onki gets his way!

Onki is cranking Chapin's head sideways - that looks painful. He's managed to get his other arm under the chin and this looks bad for Chapin! He's tightened the choke and Chapin is tapping out!
