The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thomas throws a leg kick but Smith sees it coming and moves out of range.
Smith is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Thomas.
Smith lands with a straight right. Thomas didn't see that one coming.
Smith cracks Thomas with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
Thomas takes one to the side of the head.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Thomas was well out of range. Poor timing from Smith.
Smith fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Thomas throws a low kick but Smith moves out of range easily.
Alex Smith seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Smith looks to throw the jab but Thomas is out of range.

and Thomas counters with a crisp one two that drops Smith! Thomas thinks about following him to the mat for a moment but instead steps back and waves Smith to his feet! Smith is in big trouble!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Thomas shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Smith throws a lazy right hand but Thomas sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Thomas throws a half hearted mid kick.
Smith throws the left hand but Thomas avoids the punch easily.
Thomas moves in looking to clinch but Smith pushes him off.
Smith bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Smith closes the distance and clinches up with Thomas, looking for a takedown. Smith pushes Thomas against the cage but Thomas circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Thomas displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Smith throws out the jab.
