PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Rocky Granite (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Conrado Guerra (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Granite kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Brokencyde - Get Crunk. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rocky Granite!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Conrado Guerra!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guerra fails in his attempt to clinch.
Guerra tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Granite paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Conrado Guerra seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Guerra tries to close the distance and clinch but Granite swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Guerra rushes Granite and presses him up against the cage.
Guerra is defending well against a takedown attempt.
Granite lands a right hand.
Granite stops a takedown attempt from Guerra.
Granite tries for a takedown. No joy.
Guerra wants a takedown but no success here.
Guerra has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Granite is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Rocky Granite has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Conrado Guerra.
Guerra has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Granite after a bit of a struggle.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Guerra defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Granite.
Granite tries to close the distance and clinch up but Guerra swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Granite avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Granite is trying hard to land a takedown here. Guerra sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Granite closes the distance and clinches up with Guerra, looking for a takedown. Granite pushes Guerra against the cage but Guerra circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Guerra shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Granite as he avoids it easily.
Guerra tries to clinch there but Granite circles away.
Guerra shoots in and drives through. Granite sprawls well.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Granite.

Granite shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Guerra pinned against the cage. Guerra gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Granite gets a double leg takedown into Guerra's guard.

Guerra working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Granite doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Granite manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Granite looking to sit in guard and control but Guerra gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Guerra wants to control from the top but Granite keeps moving.

Guerra sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Granite's guard.

Guerra is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Granite has managed to free his arm - good work.
Granite makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Granite.
Granite is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Granite keeping moving, preventing Guerra from controlling successfully.
Guerra won't allow Granite to sweep him here.
Granite is trying to control the position from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Granite is on top in guard.
Granite won't allow Guerra to get back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Rocky Granite will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

and Granite counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Guerra's guard now.
Granite throws a big right hand that misses.
Guerra is looking to stand up but Granite isn't so interested in that idea.
Granite throwing strikes but missing.
Granite scoring with punches to the head and body.
Guerra trying to keep a closed guard but Granite is proving a slippery customer.

Guerra is trying to control the position but Granite postures up.

Guerra is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Granite is controlling him.
Granite engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Conrado Guerra.
Granite fails with a takedown attempt.
Guerra tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Granite counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Guerra wants to get back to his feet but Granite is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Granite slips a nice elbow through Guerra's hands, connecting with Guerra's forehead.
Granite wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guerra keeps working.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Granite is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Granite trying to control the action but Guerra is working from the bottom.
Guerra is trying to stand back up but Granite is controlling him
Granite throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Guerra tries to roll over but Granite keeps him under control.

Granite thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Guerra's head.
Granite is nestled in close to Guerra, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Granite perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Granite seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Guerra for as long as he can get away with.
Rocky Granite overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Guerra is trying to hold Granite in close to prevent damage but Granite has managed to pass into half guard.

Granite passes Guerra's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Granite content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Guerra has hold of Granite's hands but Granite slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guerra is staying active underneath Granite, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Guerra is looking to escape.

Guerra tries to close the distance and clinch up but Granite swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Granite keeps the fight on the outside.
Granite shoots in for a takedown but Guerra shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
The fight stays on the outside here - Guerra looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Granite counters by moving into the clinch.
Granite on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.
Guerra lands with a left to the head.
Granite blocks an uppercut.
Granite takes a knee right on the jaw!


It looks like Rocky Granite has been cut.
Guerra can't break the clinch.
Granite working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Guerra is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Guerra takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Guerra sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Granite misses with a takedown attempt - Guerra sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Granite looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Granite has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
