The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ricard throws a right hand that Niedzwiedzki ducks under and follows up with a left that Niedzwiedzki also avoids with ease.
Ricard shoots in and drives through. Niedzwiedzki sprawls well.
Ricard throws a leg kick but Niedzwiedzki sees it coming and moves out of range.
Ricard tries for a takedown but Niedzwiedzki sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Niedzwiedzki pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Niedzwiedzki missing with a left hand there. Ricard was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Niedzwiedzki shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Ricard's guard.

Ricard has his foot on Niedzwiedzki's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Niedzwiedzki works his way back into a safe position though.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ricard has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Niedzwiedzki is working away from the top position though.
Niedzwiedzki tries to pass the half guard into mount. Ricard knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Ricard manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Niedzwiedzki manages to get himself to full guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Niedzwiedzki is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Ricard defends well.

Niedzwiedzki has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Ricard can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Ricard tries to lock up and control but Niedzwiedzki gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ricard tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Niedzwiedzki seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Ricard does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Niedzwiedzki has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Ricard has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!
Ricard is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Niedzwiedzki has his arm under Ricard's chin here. Game over son! Niedzwiedzki squeezes tightly and Ricard is forced to tap out!
