And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ricardo Sanchez!
The judges for this bout are Viktor Lagutenko, Aleksei Zolotukhin and Dmitry Maklakov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Desjardins tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Sanchez is able to avoid easily.
Desjardins misses with a body kick.
Desjardins fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
Desjardins slaps away a takedown attempt from Sanchez, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Desjardins has managed to clinch.
Sanchez can't break the clinch.
Desjardins controlling the action here for a moment.
Desjardins lands with a right to the head.

Sanchez jumps into guard, dragging Desjardins to the mat.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Desjardins thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Sanchez is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Desjardins defends well.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jonathan Desjardins has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Sanchez moves in looking to clinch but Desjardins pushes him off.
Desjardins buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Desjardins fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanchez manages to avoid it.
Desjardins fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sanchez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Desjardins takes the fight into the clinch.
Desjardins tries to land a shot to the body but it's blocked.

Desjardins works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Desjardins gets to his feet - Sanchez follows without any prompting.
A nice leg kick lands there from Desjardins.

Desjardins bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Desjardins wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Sanchez, who protects the arm well.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Desjardins has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Sanchez is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Desjardins yanks on the arm and Sanchez is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Desjardins.
