PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Empty Head (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seraphim Malachi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Empty Head!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seraphim Malachi!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Stewart Dunkirk and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Malachi gets tackled into the cage by Head. Head maintains the clinch.
Head blocks a body shot from Malachi.
Malachi is trying to break the clinch but Head is controlling him.

Head turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Head manages to end up in side control.

Head decides to stand up, so the ref orders Malachi to his feet.
Head closes the distance and clinches up with Malachi, looking for a takedown. Head pushes Malachi against the cage but Malachi circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Malachi throws an off balance right hand

and Head counters by moving into the clinch.
Malachi wants to take the fight to the mat but Head manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Head prevents a takedown attempt there.

Head manages to break the clinch.

Head has closed the distance and engaged Malachi in a clinch.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Head goes for a takedown in the clinch but Malachi prevents it.

Malachi is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Head pulls guard effortlessly.
Head seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Malachi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Head has his foot on Malachi's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Malachi works his way back into a safe position though.

Head wriggles free and stands up.
Malachi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Empty Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seraphim Malachi.

Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Head!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Malachi tries to clinch but Head moves out of range.
Head dives in and grabs Malachi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Malachi pushes down on Head's head and hops out.
Malachi stuffs the takedown attempt from Head. Head gets slowly back to his feet.
Head is breathing heavily.

Head takes the fight into the clinch.
Malachi drops down looking for an ankle pick but Head pulls his leg out and moves away.
Head throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Malachi's waist but Malachi gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Head off to one side.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Malachi fails to land the takedown.
Head looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Malachi tries to close the distance and clinch up but Head swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Malachi shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Head moves into the clinch.
Malachi stalling in the clinch but Head improves position.
Head throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Malachi blocks it with crossed arms.
Head is trying to pull guard but Malachi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Head jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Malachi walks away with a smile on his face. Head gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Head moves into range and clinches up with Malachi.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Head is trying to pull guard but Malachi turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Malachi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Malachi is trying to break the clinch but Head has him pressed against the cage.
Malachi wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Head is looking to break free of the clinch but Malachi has double underhooks.
Malachi is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Head gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Head successfully pulls guard.
Head pulls Malachi in close to prevent any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Head keeping moving, preventing Malachi from controlling successfully.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Empty Head dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Head shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Malachi sprawls well. Malachi wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Head gets slowly back to his feet.
Malachi tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Head paws at him with a jab and circles away.
A low kick from Head is predictable there
and Malachi counters with a body kick.
Head looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Malachi is fending him off so far but Head persists. Nope, Malachi circles away and we're back to standing.
Malachi swings widly with a right hand
and Head connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Head darts in and clinches Malachi up against the cage.
Head tries for a takedown but Malachi manages to get underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Empty Head. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Malachi is trying to pull guard but Head turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Malachi jumps guard.

Malachi pushes Head off and scrambles back to his feet.
Empty Head is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head fails with a takedown attempt.

Head moves into the clinch successfully.
Malachi is trying to pull guard but Head has him pressed against the cage.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Malachi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Head lands a body punch.
Head is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Malachi is defending well for now.

Malachi tries to land a knee to the body but he is off balance and Head avoids it.

Malachi jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Head walks away with a smile on his face. Malachi gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Malachi with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Head to score with a decent uppercut.
Head wants to land a leg kick but Malachi is out of range.
Sloppy strikes from Head. Those never looked like landing.

Head moves into the clinch.
Head tries to score a body lock takedown but Malachi shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Head tries to pull guard but Malachi holds him up against the cage and eventually Head drops back down to his feet.
Malachi fails to pull the fight into his guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Malachi manages to break the clinch.
Head displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Malachi.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Head is defended easily by Malachi.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Malachi ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Head moves away.
Malachi dodges the punch combination from Head.
Malachi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Malachi wants it to stay on the feet.
Head fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Malachi avoids it really well and circles away.
Malachi shoots in for a takedown but Head shows good takedown defense.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Head avoids the head kick by Malachi.
Malachi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Head.
Malachi shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Head as he avoids it easily.
Head misses with a low kick.
Malachi changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Head tries to avoid it but Malachi manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Head to the ground. Head escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Head closes the distance and pushes Malachi back into the cage.

Head's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Head works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Malachi wants to break the clinch but can't.

Head jumps guard and drags Malachi to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
Head keeping moving, preventing Malachi from controlling successfully.
Head is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Head is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Malachi throws an elbow that misses. Head uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Malachi's guard. Nice move by Head!
Head is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Malachi controls Head momentarily but Head frees himself.
Head slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Empty Head wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Malachi fails with a takedown attempt.
Malachi takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Head throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Malachi is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Head shoots in but no luck this time.

Head has taken the fight to the clinch.
Head has Malachi pressed against the cage, preventing Malachi from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Head is pressed up against the cage. Malachi has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Head down to the mat. Head avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Empty Head is winning the standup battle so far.
Malachi throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Head's waist but Head gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Malachi off to one side.
Empty Head has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Seraphim Malachi.
Head throws a nice looking combination but Malachi bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

Head closes the distance and pushes Malachi back into the cage.

Head has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Malachi uses from the top position.
Head pulls Malachi in close to prevent any damage.

Head is looking for a triangle but Malachi pushes his legs off easily.
Head is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

Head is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Malachi content to stall in guard here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Head is on top in guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Empty Head showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Head has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
