PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Terry Bull (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dom Watson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Terry Bull!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dom Watson!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A low kick from Watson misses
and Bull counters with an inside leg kick.
Bull shoots in for a double leg but Watson sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Bull tries to close the distance and clinch up but Watson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Bull shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Watson but Watson pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Watson counters with a nice double leg into half guard.

Watson looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Bull tries to get to full guard but Watson has control of the leg.

Bull has one foot on Watson's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Watson shoots in for a takedown but Bull shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Watson closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Bull is trying to control Watson's posture but Watson avoids it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bull is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Watson is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Bull manages to get back to half guard.
Bull slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Watson looking to pass the guard.

Bull is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Watson prevents Bull from getting back to his feet.

Watson stands and steps away. Bull gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Bull keeps the fight on the outside.
Watson fails with a takedown attempt.
Bull tries to close the distance and clinch up but Watson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Watson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Bull to the mat! Bull manages to get full guard.
Watson looks gassed!

Bull looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Bull is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Bull not landing any meaningful shots this time.

Bull is controlling the pace.

Bull is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Bull throwing strikes here but Watson is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

That was a close round but I would say that Terry Bull will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Horrible takedown by Bull or perhaps it was just good defense by Watson which made him look bad.
Bull fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Watson is defended easily by Bull.
Bull shoots in and drives through. Watson sprawls well.

Watson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Good anti-grappling being displayed by Watson as Bull tries to tie him up.
Watson tries to stall but Bull uses the opportunity to gain a better position.

Bull has Watson pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Watson manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Watson manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Watson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Bull is defending well.
Watson is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Bull to keep the fight standing.
Watson is breathing heavily.
Watson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Bull pulls guard.

Bull kicks Watson off and gets to his feet.
Watson shoots in but Bull avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Bull moves in looking to clinch but Watson pushes him off.
Bull shoots in looking for a takedown but Watson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Bull's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Watson leaves Bull with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Watson tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Bull counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Watson is lucky that one didn't land flush.

Terry Bull is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bull doesn't manage to clinch there - Watson circles away.

Watson gets tackled into the cage by Bull. Bull maintains the clinch.
Watson tries to break free but Bull pushes him back against the cage.
Bull is working for takedown but Watson is calmly controlling the position for now.

Bull breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Watson looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Watson wants to take a breather but Bull is having none of it.
Bull is trying to maintain the position but Watson is very close to passing his half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Bull controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Bull wants to improve his position but Watson is controlling well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Terry Bull dominated that second round.
That's time! Bull's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Watson wants to clinch but Bull slips to the side
and Bull counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Watson doesn't manage to clinch there - Bull circles away.
Watson tries to clinch but Bull moves out of range.
Watson looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Bull shoots and misses

and Watson counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Watson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Bull has his foot on Watson's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Watson works his way back into a safe position though.

Watson controls Bull momentarily but Bull frees himself.

Bull stands and steps away. Watson gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Watson shoots in and bounces Bull off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Bull escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Watson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Watson is working Bull over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Bull is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Watson defends well.
Watson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bull swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Dom Watson has got the better of the ground game so far.
Watson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Bull looking to hit a scissor sweep but Watson is one step ahead there.
Bull throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Bull wants to sweep but no luck.
Bull is controlling Watson's posture.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Bull shoots in for a takedown but Watson shows good takedown defense.

Watson darts in and clinches Bull up against the cage.
Bull works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.

Bull manages to break the clinch.

Watson closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Bull's guard.
Watson wants to control from the top but Bull keeps moving.

Bull wriggles free and stands up.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Watson misses with a low kick.
Watson stuffs the takedown attempt from Bull. Bull gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Terry Bull. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Bull moves into the clinch successfully.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Watson fails to pull guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Watson is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.
Bull effectively controlling the action here.

And that's the end of the fight!
Dom Watson comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Bull has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
