PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Richie Yang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Kim (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Richie Yang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Kim!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Summer Carpenter and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Yang fails with a takedown attempt.
Yang shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Yang misses with a body shot.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Yang is defended easily by Kim.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Richie Yang. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Yang shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kim pinned against the cage. Kim gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Nice sprawl there from Kim as Yang shoots in.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Yang.

Kim fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Richie Yang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kim scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

Yang manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kim on his heels. He'll look to pass Kim's guard now, I'm sure.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Yang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kim is controlling Yang's posture.
Yang stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Kim swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kim looking for a sweep. Not yet Kim, not yet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Yang trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Kim is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jay Kim wasn't active enough on the ground.
The fighters circling - Kim throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Yang tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kim swivels and escapes.
Kim lands a jab to the head.
Yang shoots in looking for a takedown. Kim tries to sprawl out of it but Yang keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Kim manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Yang looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Yang shoots in but Kim avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Yang misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Kim displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Yang.
Yang shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kim pinned against the cage. Kim gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Yang closes the distance and clinches up with Kim, looking for a takedown. Yang pushes Kim against the cage but Kim circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Yang is breathing heavily.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Yang fails with a takedown attempt.
Yang shoots in for a double leg but Kim sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
A decent looking cross lands there for Kim.
Kim throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Yang on the side of the head.
Yang fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Kim avoids it really well and circles away.
Kim scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kim misses with the combination.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Kim dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Kim defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Yang.

Yang moves into the clinch.
Kim is trying to maintain a safe position but Yang gets an underhook and turns Kim into the cage.

Yang jumps into guard, dragging Kim to the mat.
Kim really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Yang. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kim has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Yang is proving hard to escape from.

Kim got a little sloppy there for a moment and Yang has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kim has managed to get both his arms back between Yang's legs - danger averted.

Yang working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Kim doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Yang is tightening it up a little... Kim has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Kim reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Kim taps out! Nice BJJ there by Yang!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Richie Yang!
During a confident post fight interview, Richie Yang thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
