Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hidalgo Montoya (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and David Currie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Currie has chosen Helmet - Just Another Victim as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 20 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Hidalgo Montoya!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, David Currie!
The judges for this bout are , Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Currie closes this distance looking for a takedown but Montoya circles away.
Montoya checks a leg kick nicely.
Montoya dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Currie moves out of range of the body kick.
Currie digs a good body shot into Montoya's ribs.
Montoya connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Montoya. Currie shrugs it off though.
Montoya wants to slow Currie down by chopping away at his legs.
Currie misses with a looping left.

Montoya has taken the fight to the clinch.

Currie manages to break the clinch.
Montoya misses with a leg kick.
Currie on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Montoya throws a front kick aimed at Currie's knee but Currie avoids it well.
Montoya looks to land a body kick but Currie moved away.
Montoya fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Currie manages to avoid it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Montoya motions for Currie to come forward. Montoya throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Currie connects with a jab.
Currie tries to close the distance and clinch but Montoya swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Montoya tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Currie was well out of range. Poor timing from Montoya.
Currie on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Currie throws a body punch but Montoya moves out of range.
Currie lands with an overhand left.
Currie fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Montoya manages to avoid it.

Montoya drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Currie is not content to let Montoya control the position.
Currie regains half guard.

Currie wants to get back to full guard.
Currie won't allow Montoya to pass to mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Currie is looking for a sweep. Montoya is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Montoya has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Currie is trying to escape the mount.

Montoya content just to control the position here.
Montoya looking to control but Currie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Montoya fails to move to back control.
Currie really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Currie tries to hold on but Montoya postures up.

Currie is wriggling around trying to escape.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Montoya goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Currie turns into him and now he's in Montoya's guard.
Currie throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Montoya works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hidalgo Montoya dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Montoya slips a jab and a cross from Currie.
Montoya moves into range and connects with a jab.
Currie shoots for a takedown but Montoya saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Currie tries to close the distance and clinch but Montoya swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Montoya throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Currie swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Montoya.

Currie drives through with a takedown into guard.
Montoya seems keen to control Currie's posture.
Currie trying to control the position from guard on top but Montoya is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Currie with a flurry of punches that miss.
Montoya pulls Currie in close to prevent any damage.
Currie wants to control from the top but Montoya keeps moving.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. David Currie wasn't active enough on the ground.
Montoya ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Currie throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Montoya throws a low kick but Currie moves out of range easily.
Hidalgo Montoya is winning the standup battle so far.
Currie avoids the body shot from Montoya.
Montoya stuffs the takedown attempt from Currie. Currie gets slowly back to his feet.
Montoya misses with a low kick.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Montoya.

Currie drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Currie is looking to work some ground and pound but Montoya has wrist control.

Montoya looking to hit a scissor sweep but Currie is one step ahead there.
Currie makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Montoya utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Currie postures up in Montoya's guard and throws a big left but Montoya blocks it.
Currie slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Currie throws a big right hand that misses.
Currie throws an elbow that misses. Montoya uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Currie's guard. Nice move by Montoya!

Currie has an active guard here but Montoya has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Currie manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Montoya controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Montoya throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Montoya pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
A jab from Montoya does it's job there.
Montoya lands a nice looking body kick.
Montoya thuds his right hand into Currie's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Montoya attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
A slapping leg kick lands for Montoya.
Currie looks to throw a body kick
and Montoya counters with a low kick, right behind Currie 's knee.
Montoya thows a body shot but no joy.
Currie shoots in and drives through. Montoya sprawls well.

Montoya pushes Currie up against the cage in a clinch.
Currie tries to pull guard but Montoya holds him up against the cage and eventually Currie drops back down to his feet.
Currie wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Currie avoids a wild elbow strike from Montoya.

Currie lands a body shot in the clinch.
Currie creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Montoya lands an elbow just above Currie 's eye.
Currie takes a shot to the head.
Currie is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Montoya is defending well for now.
Currie cracks Montoya with a nice body shot.
Currie is working for takedown but Montoya is calmly controlling the position for now.
Hidalgo Montoya has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of David Currie.
Montoya tries to land knees in the clinch but Currie avoids the damage to the body.
Currie tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Montoya's elbow.

Currie has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Montoya after a bit of a struggle.

Currie can't find room to land a body shot as Montoya controls the action.

Montoya lands a nice elbow.
Montoya is trying to maintain a safe position but Currie gets an underhook and turns Montoya into the cage.
Currie tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Montoya's elbow.
Currie digs a right hand into Montoya's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Montoya's gas tank.
Currie lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.


It looks like Hidalgo Montoya has been cut.
Montoya makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
Currie lands with a light punch inside.

Currie lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Montoya is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Currie's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Currie's back!

Currie tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Montoya tries to control but Currie wriggling away.
Montoya seems to be looking to move to his opponent's back but Currie is holding on tight.
Currie slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Currie is looking to improve his position.
Montoya is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Montoya tries to free his leg and advance position but Currie is retaining full guard.

Currie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Montoya gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to David Currie.
I think Currie has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
