PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lil Scrapy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Miller comes to the cage accompanied by Don't Worry, Be Happy!. Scrapy has chosen Scrapy Do as his entrance music. Lil Scrapy told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugo Miller!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Lil Scrapy!
The judges for this bout are Chris Saunders, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scrapy takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Scrapy throws a right and a left that Miller avoids nicely.
Miller jabs Scrapy to the body, keeping him at a distance.
A thudding body kick lands there by Miller!
Miller fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Miller stuffs the takedown.
Scrapy takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Miller will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Miller throws a jab when Scrapy was well out of range.
Scrapy moves out of range as Miller throws a body kick.
Miller throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Miller connects with a body shot.
Miller cracks a nice hook into Scrapy's ribs.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Scrapy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Miller takes a swing at Scrapy's ribcage but misses.

Miller turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Scrapy dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Scrapy has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Scrapy there as he acknowledges the shot.
Miller bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
Miller swings and misses with a hook to the body.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Scrapy.
Miller throws a head kick but Scrapy moves out of range.
Miller is looking to wear down Scrapy with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Miller fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Scrapy has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Miller shoots in looking for a takedown but Scrapy manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Miller's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugo Miller. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Miller thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Scrapy if he has to take too many more of those.
Miller just misses with a punch to the body.

Crunch! Miller slams his shin into Scrapy's torso.
Scrapy tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Miller thows a body shot but no joy.
Scrapy punishes Miller's body with a nice straight punch.
Miller looks to score with a jab to the body but Scrapy is just out of range.
Miller gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there.

Scrapy scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Scrapy moves out of range of the body kick.
Miller takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Miller pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Miller misses with an uppercut
and Scrapy counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Scrapy moves away from the strike by Miller.
Miller throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Scrapy fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Scrapy takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Miller jabs at Scrapy's body.
Miller connects with a leg kick. Scrapy looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.

Miller tries to work over Scrapy's front leg with a kick but Scrapy checks it.
Scrapy lands with an uppercut that bounces Miller off the cage and back into range.
Miller looks to land a combination but Scrapy avoids it well.
Scrapy swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Hugo Miller seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Scrapy displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Miller throws out the jab.
Scrapy stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Miller.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Miller lets loose with a powerful body kick. Scrapy will feel that in the morning.
Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
Scrapy misses with a two punch combination.
Scrapy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Miller.
Miller lands a jab to the head.
Scrapy throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Miller.
Scrapy has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Miller finds it's way round the side to connect with Scrapy's head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hugo Miller dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Scrapy will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

and Scrapy takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Scrapy's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Miller misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hugo Miller is winning the standup battle so far.
Scrapy blocks a leg kick.
Miller lands with a kick to the temple. Scrapy shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Scrapy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

Scrapy misses with a straight right.
Miller throws a looping overhand right but Scrapy ducks down to avoid it.
Scrapy needs to keep his hands up - Miller had a free shot at his head there.

Miller throws a sloppy head kick and Scrapy moves out of range easily.

Miller fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Scrapy.
Miller tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Scrapy paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Scrapy shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Miller sprawls well. Miller wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Scrapy gets slowly back to his feet.

Miller goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Miller lands a nice shot to the body.
Miller ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Scrapy moves away.

Both these guys seem content to just stand up and trade with eachother but Scrapy might want to think about changing up his gameplan a bit because over the course of the fight, Miller has got the better of the exchanges.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts Scrapy, as that shot connected.
Scrapy uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Miller.

A bone on bone clash there as Scrapy blocks the leg kick.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hugo Miller has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lil Scrapy.

Miller lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Scrapy misses with a series of wild punches.
Miller dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Scrapy. That did some damage!
Scrapy throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Miller throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.


It looks like Lil Scrapy has been cut.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Miller shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Scrapy keeps the fight on the outside.
Miller tries a head kick but it misses.
The fight stays on the outside here - Miller looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Scrapy tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Scrapy takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Scrapy closes this distance looking for a takedown but Miller circles away.

Miller throws out a leg kick but Scrapy moves out of range and Miller only half commits.
Scrapy moves out of range of the body kick.
Miller throws a head kick that misses.

Scrapy fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Miller to the ground. Scrapy is now in Miller's guard.
Scrapy wants to get up but he can't break Miller's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Scrapy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Miller looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Lil Scrapy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Scrapy tries to stand but Miller is controlling from the bottom.
Scrapy sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Miller's guard.

Scrapy is looking for a kimura but Miller is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Scrapy to get the leverage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Scrapy stands up and beckons Miller to join him on the feet.
Scrapy has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Miller finds it's way round the side to connect with Scrapy's head.

Miller tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Scrapy was well out of range. Poor timing from Miller.
Scrapy blocks the body kick.
Miller feints and then cracks Scrapy's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Scrapy down.
Miller scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Scrapy thows a body shot but no joy.
Scrapy misses with a series of wild punches.
Lil Scrapy is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Scrapy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Scrapy takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Scrapy has developed a nice purple lump on his ribcage, as a result of some heavy body kicks from Miller.

Miller has closed the distance and engaged Scrapy in a clinch.
Scrapy fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Scrapy is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Miller gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Miller using the Thai plumb to throw knees but Scrapy has his back arched nicely, preventing the strike.
Miller lands a right hand that snaps the head of Scrapy backwards.

Miller comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Scrapy takes an elbow to the forehead.

And that's the end of the fight!
Hugo Miller showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Miller, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Hugo Miller decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
