PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Jackson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Az Anubis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Anubis has chosen Lil B - The Age Of Information as his entrance music. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 15 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brandon Jackson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 14 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Az Anubis!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Frank Antenori.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Anubis tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Anubis tries to clinch but Jackson moves out of range.
Jackson fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.


It looks like Az Anubis has been cut.
No joy there for Jackson, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jackson throws a hook but Anubis blocks it.
Jackson darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Good leg kick by Jackson there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Jackson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Anubis counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Jackson is stalling here.

Anubis lands a nice knee to the body.
Anubis scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Jackson swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Jackson misses with some punches.

Jackson has picked Anubis up - he's going for a ride! Jackson dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Jackson thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Anubis's head.
Jackson uses his free foot to push down on Anubis's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Anubis.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Jackson throws some wild stikes that Anubis manages to avoid easily.
Jackson has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Anubis's face.


That has opened up Az Anubis's cut even more.
Jackson misses with some ground and pound and Anubis recovers position to half guard.

Jackson is looking for a kimura here.
Anubis blocking the ground and pound attempt from Jackson.

Jackson is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Anubis is just riding it out for now. Jackson eventually gives up the hold.
Jackson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Jackson trying to control from Anubis's half guard. Anubis has other ideas though and has regained full guard.
Jackson looking to sit in guard and control but Anubis gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Anubis got a little sloppy there for a moment and Jackson has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Anubis has managed to get both his arms back between Jackson's legs - danger averted.

Jackson escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Anubis gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jackson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Anubis sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Jackson is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Anubis defends well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anubis is looking to clinch but Jackson is avoiding it.
Anubis doesn't manage to clinch there - Jackson circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Anubis looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Jackson shoots in for a double leg but Anubis sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jackson looks to land a right hand but Anubis moved out of range.

and Anubis counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Az Anubis is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

The cut above Az Anubis's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
Jackson avoids the body shot from Anubis.
Jackson stuns Anubis with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Jackson throws a right hand that Anubis ducks under and follows up with a left that Anubis also avoids with ease.

A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.
Maybe Jackson would be better served going for some more strikes rather than trying to control so much.

Jackson blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.

Anubis's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not.
Anubis has Jackson pressed against the cage, preventing Jackson from circling away and getting back to striking at range.

Anubis lands a body shot in the clinch.
Jackson lands a shot to the body.
Jackson is trying to break the clinch but Anubis is controlling him.

and Anubis counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.

Anubis tries to close the distance and clinch up but Jackson swats him away and circles back towards the center.

and Anubis counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Anubis is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Jackson bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Anubis avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Jackson.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Brandon Jackson overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
You can see the frustration on Anubis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Anubis pushes Jackson away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Jackson gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Jackson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jackson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jackson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Jackson looking to punish the body of his opponent here but Anubis is avoiding damage well.
Jackson throwing strikes but Anubis manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Jackson tries to improve position but can't.
A lull in the action here as Anubis stalls from top position.
Anubis trying to control the action but Jackson is working from the bottom.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jackson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Brandon Jackson showed his dominance in that final round.
