PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Justin Macgowan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Aleks Pimpovic (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Macgowan kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Nyan Cat. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Macgowan!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Aleks Pimpovic!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Russell Pearce and Jonathan Paton.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Macgowan misses with a takedown attempt - Pimpovic sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Macgowan throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pimpovic's waist but Pimpovic gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Macgowan off to one side.
Macgowan tries for a takedown but Pimpovic sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Justin Macgowan. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pimpovic swinging wildly here.

Macgowan closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Pimpovic quickly recovers to half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Pimpovic tries to get to full guard but Macgowan has control of the leg.
Macgowan takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Macgowan seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pimpovic for as long as he can get away with.

Macgowan seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Macgowan thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Pimpovic's head.

Pimpovic really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Macgowan. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Pimpovic thuds a left hand into Macgowan's body.
Pimpovic takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Macgowan throws a right and a left that Pimpovic avoids nicely.
Macgowan misses with a low kick.
A looping hook to the body misses from Macgowan. Pimpovic does a little dance to reset his feet.
Pimpovic lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Macgowan circles away quickly and effectively.
Pimpovic fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Macgowan on the side of the head.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pimpovic misses with a jab, cross combination.
Macgowan throws a big shot that misses.
Pimpovic misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Macgowan misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

A combination from Pimpovic does no damage.

Macgowan shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Pimpovic is trying to defend but Macgowan finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Justin Macgowan just wasn't active enough.
Macgowan's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Pimpovic connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Macgowan scrambles back to his feet.

Pimpovic throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Macgowan fails with an attempt to clinch.

Pimpovic stuffs the takedown attempt from Macgowan. Macgowan gets slowly back to his feet.

Pimpovic stalks Macgowan and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Macgowan's face. Macgowan staggers backwards, shaken.
Pimpovic throws a right and a left that Macgowan avoids nicely.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Pimpovic is looking to break free of the clinch but Macgowan has double underhooks.

Macgowan is working Pimpovic over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Macgowan has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Macgowan might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Macgowan is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pimpovic is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Macgowan remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Macgowan lands a heavy shot. That's hurt Pimpovic! Macgowan sees the opportunity and turns up the heat - strike after strike land to the defenseless Pimpovic and the ref dives in to save him! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 3, we have a winner by way of KO (Strikes). Justin Macgowan!
