PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Brock Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chin Chiang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chiang has chosen Nyan Cat as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chin Chiang was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brock Rua!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chin Chiang!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Bruno Lombardi and Russell Pearce.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rua looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rua is controlling the pace.
Rua tries to stand but can't do so whilst Chiang controls his leg.

Chiang is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Rua pulls his head out easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Chiang moves into full guard.
Rua slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

We're going to have a standup here because Brock Rua wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Chiang shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rua as he avoids it easily.

Rua moves into the clinch.

Rua tightens his grip and picks Chiang up, before dumping him to the ground. Chiang manages to land in guard.
Chiang looking to hit a scissor sweep but Rua is one step ahead there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Chiang is trying to keep Rua in close.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Rua looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Brock Rua.

Rua closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Chiang keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Chiang regains full guard. Nicely done.
Rua looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Rua will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Chiang controls Rua momentarily but Rua frees himself.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!



The fight moves into the clinch position.
Chiang is trying to pull guard but Rua has him pressed against the cage.
Chiang tries to pull guard but Rua holds him up against the cage and eventually Chiang drops back down to his feet.
Chiang tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Rua just stands there and leans against the cage.
Brock Rua has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chin Chiang.
Chiang misses with a shot to the kidneys.

Rua has hold of one of Chiang's legs. Chiang is fighting the takedown attempt but Rua gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Chiang is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rua is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Chiang advances to half guard.
Chiang is trying to control the action in half guard but Rua is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Rua on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Rua tries to get out of the position.

Rua is staying active underneath Chiang, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Chin Chiang hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Chiang uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Rua.
Rua stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Rua wants it to stay on the feet.

Rua gets a takedown into half guard.
Rua prevents Chiang from improving his position.
Rua is looking to advance position but Chiang won't allow it.

Chiang tries to get to full guard but Rua has control of the leg.
Brock Rua overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Rua is thwarting Chiang's attempts to control the position.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Brock Rua wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Chiang is looking to clinch.

Rua shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Rua dives in and scores a takedown into Chiang's guard.
Rua wants to stand and escape but instead Chiang has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

Chiang might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Rua kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Rua holds on and takes a little breather.

Rua is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Chiang trying to control the position from guard on top but Rua is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Chin Chiang was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Rua drives through with a takedown into guard.
Chiang is trying to control the position but Rua postures up.

Rua drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Chiang manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Rua has Chiang in his guard.
Chiang forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Chiang seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Rua does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Chin Chiang wasn't active enough on the ground.
Rua lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Chiang backs up against the cage.


It looks like Chin Chiang has been cut.
Chiang closes this distance looking for a takedown but Rua circles away.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Chiang is defended easily by Rua.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Rua has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Brock Rua showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Rua has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
