PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Nick Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Snips Barbour (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Snips Barbour struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 156.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nick Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Snips Barbour!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and George Francis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barbour checks a leg kick nicely.
Barbour throws a nice inside leg kick.

Barbour moves into the clinch successfully.
A nice right hand lands inside from Barbour.
Barbour letting Johnson take a breather here.

Barbour jumps guard.

Barbour had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Johnson is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Barbour Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Johnson's back instead.

Barbour really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Johnson tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!
Barbour lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Johnson hang on?

Barbour is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Johnson has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Johnson!

Johnson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Johnson stands and steps away. Barbour gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Johnson shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barbour pinned against the cage. Barbour gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Barbour sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Johnson has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Barbour off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Barbour misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Johnson forces Barbour back against the cage and clinches.
Johnson is pressed up against the cage. Barbour has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Johnson down to the mat. Johnson avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Barbour tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Barbour wants to control but Johnson is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Johnson thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Barbour tries to roll over but Johnson keeps him under control.
Barbour is trying to maintain the position but Johnson is very close to passing his half guard.
Barbour tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Barbour gets back to full guard.
Johnson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Barbour wants to sweep but no luck.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Barbour is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Barbour avoids a kick to the body.

Barbour drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Johnson has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Barbour should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Johnson has tightened it up now! Barbour should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!
