PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Harvi Kalaso (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jay Walker (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kalaso comes into the arena with Hank Williams SR. blaring out of the sound system. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the ring.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 27 - 20 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Harvi Kalaso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 9 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Jay Walker!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Dmitry Maklakov and Illya Tyunina.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Walker closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Kalaso quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Kalaso tries to get to full guard but Walker has control of the leg.

Walker unloads with some shots from mount but Kalaso bucks and avoids them well.

Walker is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Kalaso has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Kalaso is bucking up trying to escape but Walker cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Kalaso is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Walker trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Kalaso is looking to improve his position but Walker isn't that keen on the idea.

Walker is working for a submission of some sort.
Kalaso wants to control but Walker is keeping busy.

Kalaso is not content to let Walker control the position.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kalaso is trying to stand up here but Walker is controlling him well.
Walker content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Kalaso is trying hard to land a takedown here. Walker sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Walker manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Kalaso on his heels. He'll look to pass Kalaso's guard now, I'm sure.

Kalaso had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Walker defends it easily.
Kalaso can't keep his opponent in guard - Walker advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Kalaso is staying active underneath Walker, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Kalaso is trying to escape the mount.

Kalaso lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Walker circles away quickly and effectively.
Walker moves out of range of the body kick.
Kalaso changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Walker tries to avoid it but Kalaso manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Walker to the ground. Walker escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Walker avoids the head kick by Kalaso.
Horrible takedown by Walker or perhaps it was just good defense by Kalaso which made him look bad.
Kalaso shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Walker as he jumps to the side.
Kalaso shoots for a takedown but Walker saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Walker shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kalaso as he avoids it easily.

Walker shoots in and bounces Kalaso off the ropes to secure the takedown into guard.

Walker tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Walker has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Jay Walker has got the better of the ground game so far.

Kalaso takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Kalaso manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Walker is trying to control. Kalaso wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Walker is working for a kimura but Kalaso is defending it quite comfortably.

Kalaso is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Walker pulls his head out easily.

Walker seems to be working for a kimura but Kalaso defends the submission attempt.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Jay Walker showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Kalaso shoots in but Walker avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Kalaso misses with a wild body shot.
Walker stuffs the takedown.
Kalaso scores with a jab to the body.
Kalaso displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Walker.
Walker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Kalaso moves into the clinch.
Kalaso wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.
Walker lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Kalaso is working for takedown but Walker is calmly controlling the position for now.

Kalaso has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Walker is trying to keep an underhook but Kalaso manages to get the takedown into half guard.

Walker is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Kalaso to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Kalaso shrugs it off.

Walker has hold of Kalaso's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kalaso manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Kalaso tries to hold on but Walker pushes him away.

Kalaso keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Kalaso tries to lock up and control but Walker gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Walker is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Kalaso has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Kalaso!
Kalaso looking to sit in guard and control but Walker gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Walker throws a big elbow that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
Harvi Kalaso showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Walker has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
