The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Rurikov enables Kapila to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Rurikov manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

Rurikov had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Kapila defends it easily.

Rurikov has momentary wrist control but Kapila slips an elbow through the middle.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rurikov has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Kapila can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Rurikov has his foot on Kapila's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Kapila works his way back into a safe position though.
Kapila throws an elbow that misses. Rurikov uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Kapila's guard. Nice move by Rurikov!
Kapila is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Rurikov drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Kapila dives on top into guard.
Rurikov is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Kapila postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Kapila got a little sloppy there for a moment and Rurikov has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Kapila has managed to get both his arms back between Rurikov's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kapila throws a big right hand that misses.
Kapila must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kapila is in close to Rurikov's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Oh Rurikov is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Kapila postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Rurikov covers up, he's hurt! Kapila keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Kapila and the ref steps in to end the fight! Kapila can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Agni Kapila!
During a confident post fight interview, Agni Kapila thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
