The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mojo connects with the punch.
Mojo lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Vanaja.

Vanaja drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mojo dives on top into guard.

Vanaja escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mojo gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Vanaja has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mojo would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Vanaja is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Mojo defends well.

Vanaja manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Mojo manages to get himself to full guard.
Vanaja might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vanaja accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mojo is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Mojo swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Mojo looks to land a combination but Vanaja avoids it well.
Mojo bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Mojo throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Mojo throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Vanaja's head.

Vanaja shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Vanaja can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Mojo is looking to escape.

Mojo must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Mojo wants to get up but he can't break Vanaja's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Vanaja has his foot on Mojo's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Mojo works his way back into a safe position though.

Vanaja had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Mojo defends it easily.
