PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Gunner State (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peter Stringer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). State kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Blaze Of Glory. Stringer is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Cherokee - Europe. This should be a great matchup!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
State misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Stringer.
Stringer looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
State throws a sloppy head kick and Stringer moves out of range easily.
State avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
State throws the left hand but Stringer avoids the punch easily.
Horrible takedown by Stringer or perhaps it was just good defense by State which made him look bad.
Stringer moves away from the strike by State.

State changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Stringer looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

State working over Stringer with some ground and pound. Stringer looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

State slips a nice elbow through Stringer's hands, connecting with Stringer's forehead.
State wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stringer keeps working.

State wants to get up but he can't break Stringer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stringer fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Gunner State has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Stringer.
State rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Stringer moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Stringer shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has State pinned against the cage. State gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

State knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Stringer on the ground.

Stringer stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
State throws a lazy right hand but Stringer sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

A close round but Peter Stringer will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Stringer uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from State.
Stringer throws a leg kick which misses State's front leg but catches the back leg as State tries to avoid it.

State shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stringer as he avoids it easily.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Stringer bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in State's guard.
Stringer wants to control from the top but State keeps moving.
State wants to stand and escape but Stringer is having none of it.
Stringer looking to sit in guard and control but State gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

State slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
State is working Stringer over with some ground and pound from side control.
State works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

State stands up and beckons Stringer to his feet.

State breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

State closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
State has had enough of the clinch but Stringer keeps him there for the moment.

State is trying to trip Stringer. He has hold of a leg but Stringer is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. State persists though and gets the takedown into guard.

State gets to his feet - Stringer follows without any prompting.

State tries to close the distance and clinch but Stringer swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Stringer tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Stringer shoots in and bounces State off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Stringer drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Stringer jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

State feints and as Stringer raises his hands in defense, State changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Stringer lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for State!
State sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.
Stringer uses his free foot to push down on State's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for State.

Gunner State clearly takes that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Stringer moves out of range of the strikes.
Stringer takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
State throws a left and a right that both miss
and Stringer counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

State clinches up with Stringer and pushes him back against the cage.
State wants to break the clinch but can't.

Stringer breaks from the clinch.
State throws a lazy head kick
and Stringer counters with a nice low kick that buckles State's knee momentarily.
Stringer looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? State is fending him off so far but Stringer persists. Nope, State circles away and we're back to standing.

It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.
State is trying to control Stringer's posture but Stringer avoids it.

State can't do much from the bottom here.

State manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

State throws an elbow but it misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
