PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Felipe Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dragon Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fingers crossed for an exciting fight - I'm sure both fighters are looking for a nice under the table bonus!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Felipe Silva!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dragon Gracie!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Emerson Jorge and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The fight stays on the outside here - Silva looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Silva looks for a takedown but Gracie sprawls well.

Gracie throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Silva was covering up waiting for the punch and Gracie finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Silva not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Silva looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Silva is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.
Gracie should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Silva would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Silva passes into half guard.

Silva stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Felipe Silva seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gracie gets a double leg takedown into Silva's guard.

Gracie avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Silva wants to sweep but no luck.
Silva striking off his back but it's not causing Gracie any problems.
Gracie wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.
Silva has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Silva gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Silva gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Silva trying to control the position from guard on top but Gracie is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Silva wants to stand but Gracie has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Gracie looking to hit a scissor sweep but Silva is one step ahead there.
Gracie can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Silva controls the pace.

Silva wants to control from the top but Gracie keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Felipe Silva wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Horrible takedown by Silva or perhaps it was just good defense by Gracie which made him look bad.
Gracie closes the distance and clinches up with Silva, looking for a takedown. Gracie pushes Silva against the cage but Silva circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Silva.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Felipe Silva. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Silva looks for the body kick but Gracie saw that one coming.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Silva changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gracie tries to avoid it but Silva manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gracie to the ground. Gracie escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gracie tries for a takedown but Silva sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Silva looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Gracie!

Silva stands up from mount. Strange move.
Silva wants to clinch but Gracie slips to the side

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Gracie's guard.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Silva passes into half guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Silva is trying to control the action in half guard but Gracie is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Felipe Silva dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Silva closes the distance but Gracie moves to the side

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Gracie wants to lay and pray for a moment but Silva keeps working.

Gracie is working for a kimura but Silva is defending it quite comfortably.
Gracie is thwarting Silva's attempts to control the position.
Gracie sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Silva defending well though.
Silva has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Gracie is working away from the top position though.

Silva is trying to maintain the position but Gracie is very close to passing his half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Felipe Silva.
Gracie looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Felipe Silva is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Silva shoots in for a takedown but Gracie shows good takedown defense.

Gracie must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Silva wants to stand up but Gracie has a hold of him and won't allow it.

Silva looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Gracie kicks off Silva and gets to his feet.

Gracie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Silva has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Gracie off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Gracie closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Silva quickly recovers to half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Silva is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Gracie's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Gracie's back!
Silva tries to keep control of the position but Gracie is staying busy.

Silva patiently working for the choke. Which fighter will keep their nerve here?

Gracie is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Silva gets his way!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Silva is throwing strikes from the back here. Oh that last one was to the back of the head. Silva gets a warning from the referee. He throws another strike to the back of the head straight away though and the referee has seen enough. He breaks up the two fighters and stands them back up. Silva gets a real talking to here and is lucky not to get a point deducted. Silva apologises and we restart here on the feet.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
No luck for Gracie with that takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Felipe Silva will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Gracie laying and praying for a moment but Silva takes advantage and regains half guard.
Gracie is keen to just control but Silva is a slippery customer.
Silva is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Silva looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Gracie doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Gracie manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Silva is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Dragon Gracie hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Silva closes this distance looking for a takedown but Gracie circles away.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Silva is defended easily by Gracie.

Silva shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Gracie pinned against the cage. Gracie gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Gracie keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Silva shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Gracie as he avoids it easily.
Silva will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Silva tries to close the distance and clinch but Gracie swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Gracie avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Silva misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Dragon Gracie has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Felipe Silva is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Silva throws a head kick that misses.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Dragon Gracie.
Well Silva has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
