PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Johnny Awesome (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bruce Tempo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Awesome has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Johnny Awesome has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Johnny Awesome!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bruce Tempo!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and Phil Schofield.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tempo fails with a takedown attempt.

Awesome gets caught flat footed, as Tempo shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Tempo is looking to stand up but Awesome won't let him.
Awesome preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Tempo sitting in guard here, content to control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Tempo is looking to work some ground and pound but Awesome has wrist control.
Tempo is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Tempo wants to control from the top but Awesome keeps moving.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Bruce Tempo.
Tempo looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Awesome throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Awesome is breathing heavily.
Tempo throws a shot from downtown. Awesome moves away and avoids it.
Awesome throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Tempo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Awesome.
Tempo is looking to clinch but Awesome is avoiding it.
Awesome shoots in looking for a takedown. Tempo tries to sprawl out of it but Awesome keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Tempo manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Tempo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Awesome really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Awesome can't keep his opponent in guard - Tempo advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Tempo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Tempo trying to pass the guard but Awesome defending well.
Tempo perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tempo connects with a nice short shot to Awesome's temple.
Tempo winds up and cracks Awesome with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Tempo missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Tempo is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Awesome wants to hold on but Tempo pushes him away.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Tempo pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Tempo is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Tempo controlling from mount.
It looks like Tempo might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Let's hope that Tempo has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Tempo trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Tempo controlling the position easily from mount.
Tempo has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Awesome's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Tempo dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Tempo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Tempo wants to control but Awesome is keeping him busy.
Tempo lands strikes from half guard.
Tempo is looking to take a break and control but Awesome is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tempo is looking to advance position but Awesome won't allow it.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Tempo connects with a nice short shot to Awesome's temple.

Tempo prevents Awesome from improving his position.
Tempo controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Bruce Tempo was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Awesome fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Tempo, pushing him back against the cage.
Awesome is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Tempo pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Tempo has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Awesome regains guard immediately.
Tempo wants to control from the top but Awesome keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Awesome will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Awesome is working an open guard so Tempo takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Tempo shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Tempo showed some decent athleticism there.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tempo works his foot free and advances to mount.
Tempo controlling the position easily from mount.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Awesome is trying desperately to improve position.
Tempo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Awesome tries to hold on but Tempo postures up.
Tempo controlling from the full mount.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Tempo trying to control but Awesome is having none of it.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Bruce Tempo showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! And we move into the final round!


Awesome fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Tempo avoids it really well and circles away.
No luck for Tempo with that takedown attempt.
Tempo wants to clinch.
Tempo defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Awesome.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tempo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Awesome's waist but Awesome gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tempo off to one side.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Awesome keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Tempo's efforts to push away.
Awesome fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Tempo has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Tempo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Awesome tries to score with a low kick but Tempo moves his leg out of the way.
Tempo looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Awesome is fending him off so far but Tempo persists. Nope, Awesome circles away and we're back to standing.
Johnny Awesome has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Bruce Tempo.

Tempo instigates a clinch.
Tempo misses with a knee to the head.
Awesome has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Tempo wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Awesome has him pressed against the cage.

Tempo holding his opponent close, against the cage.

Tempo manages to break the clinch.

Tempo shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Awesome manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Tempo stands and throws Awesome's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Tempo wants to control for a moment but Awesome uses the opportunity to move back to half guard.
Nice strikes from Tempo there.

Tempo stalling.
Awesome tries to kick Tempo off but Tempo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Tempo missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Tempo is trying to control the action in half guard but Awesome is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Tempo is looking for a kimura but Awesome is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Tempo to get the leverage.
Tempo is trying to control. Awesome wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Awesome is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Bruce Tempo hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Tempo shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Awesome as he avoids it easily.

Tempo closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Awesome's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Awesome manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Johnny Awesome has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Bruce Tempo is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Awesome prevents Tempo from getting the reversal.

And that's the end of the fight!
Bruce Tempo comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Tempo has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
