PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Danush Towraghondi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Towraghondi comes to the cage accompanied by Coal Chamber - Amir of the Desert. Mark Coleman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Danush Towraghondi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 13 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mark Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Johanna Lukiainen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coleman with a poor takedown

and Towraghondi counters with a takedown into side control.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Towraghondi creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Coleman sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Towraghondi with the ground and pound but Coleman regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
Towraghondi landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Coleman is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Towraghondi scores with a couple of nice shots.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Coleman has his hands clasped together around Towraghondi's back. He's all about the action.

Towraghondi is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Coleman is just riding it out for now. Towraghondi eventually gives up the hold.

Towraghondi tries to pass the half guard into mount. Coleman knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Towraghondi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

Coleman regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Towraghondi.
Towraghondi throws a strike but Coleman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Coleman in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.

Coleman thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Coleman drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Towraghondi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Coleman has Towraghondi in his guard.

Towraghondi wants to control from the top but Coleman keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Towraghondi throws a big right hand that misses.
Towraghondi trying to control but Coleman is working from the bottom.
Towraghondi trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

Towraghondi postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Towraghondi knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Coleman on the ground.

Towraghondi trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Towraghondi throws a big right hand that misses.
Towraghondi throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Coleman works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Towraghondi slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Towraghondi throws a strike but Coleman rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Towraghondi has his foot on Coleman's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Coleman works his way back into a safe position though.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Towraghondi shoots in looking for a takedown. Coleman tries to sprawl out of it but Towraghondi keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Coleman manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Towraghondi.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Towraghondi as he avoids it easily.

and Towraghondi connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

Towraghondi throws an elbow that misses. Coleman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Towraghondi's guard. Nice move by Coleman!

Coleman has gone for a leg lock! Towraghondi slips out almost immediately though and dives into Coleman's guard.

Coleman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Towraghondi defends it easily.

Towraghondi throws an elbow that misses. Coleman uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Towraghondi's guard. Nice move by Coleman!

Coleman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Coleman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Towraghondi is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Coleman defends well.

Towraghondi is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Towraghondi seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Coleman drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Coleman jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Towraghondi is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Coleman is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Coleman has escaped and now he's on top!

Towraghondi working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Coleman's head.

Coleman working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Towraghondi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Towraghondi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Towraghondi is in close to Coleman's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Towraghondi looking to sit in guard and control but Coleman gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Danush Towraghondi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Towraghondi is adopting a defensive guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Coleman is bucking up trying to escape but Towraghondi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Towraghondi lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Coleman takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Coleman is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Towraghondi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Coleman is looking to escape.
Coleman is bucking up trying to escape but Towraghondi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.


Coleman is rocked!
Coleman takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Towraghondi looking to finish here with some ground and pound. He lands one big shot that has Coleman covering up... and two more big strikes land, forcing the referee to step in and put and end to proceedings! This fight is all over!
