Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Brock Shamrock!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Nick Fairley!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Arvi Lind and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shamrock slaps away a takedown attempt from Fairley, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Shamrock rushes Fairley and presses him up against the cage.

Shamrock pulls guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Shamrock not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Shamrock avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Shamrock knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Fairley on the ground.
Fairley loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Shamrock is looking to stand up but Fairley isn't so interested in that idea.
Fairley postures up.
Fairley with a flurry of punches that miss.

Shamrock looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Fairley trying to control but Shamrock is working from the bottom.
Shamrock will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Fairley postures up in Shamrock's guard and throws a big left but Shamrock blocks it.
Shamrock is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Fairley trying to control the position from guard on top but Shamrock is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fairley is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Fairley won't allow Shamrock to get back to his feet.
Fairley pushes down on Shamrock's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shamrock is trying to get back to full guard.

Fairley throwing shots but Shamrock is blocking nicely.

Fairley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Shamrock is looking to control Fairley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Shamrock avoid being mounted?
Fairley thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Shamrock's head.

Fairley wants to work for an arm triangle but Shamrock is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Fairley wants to control but Shamrock is keeping him busy.
Fairley trying to pass the guard but Shamrock defending well.
Fairley has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Fairley content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Fairley wants to lay and pray for a moment but Shamrock keeps working.

Fairley stops Shamrock from getting back to his feet.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Fairley closes the distance and clinches up with Shamrock, looking for a takedown. Fairley pushes Shamrock against the cage but Shamrock circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Shamrock misses with a takedown attempt - Fairley sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Fairley closes this distance looking for a takedown but Shamrock circles away.
Brock Shamrock has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Fairley.
Shamrock displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fairley.

Shamrock forces Fairley back against the cage and clinches.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Fairley prevents a takedown attempt there.

Shamrock jumps guard and drags Fairley to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Nick Fairley will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Shamrock wants to clinch up but Fairley keeps it at a distance.

Fairley closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Shamrock's guard.

Fairley has gone for a leg lock! Shamrock slips out almost immediately though and dives into Fairley's guard.

Shamrock wanted to stand there but Fairley had control of the position.
Shamrock has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Shamrock's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Nick Fairley has got the better of the ground game so far.
Shamrock pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Fairley is keeping the position for now.

Fairley is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Shamrock defends well.
Fairley controls Shamrock momentarily but Shamrock frees himself.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fairley has a closed guard, preventing Shamrock from standing up.

Fairley is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Shamrock pushes down on Fairley's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Fairley tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Shamrock is thwarting Fairley's attempts to control the position.
Fairley throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Shamrock looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Fairley. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Shamrock tries to pass to full mount but Fairley defends it.
Fairley has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Shamrock is working away from the top position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shamrock seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Fairley does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Shamrock is really struggling to control Fairley but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Shamrock winds up and cracks Fairley with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Fairley is pressing down on Shamrock's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Shamrock has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Fairley to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Shamrock is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Fairley pulls down on the head and he's put Shamrock to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:49 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Nick Fairley!
