PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Tyson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Tyson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Eye of the Tiger. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jab, jab by Diaz - just one landing.
Tyson shoots in looking for a takedown. Diaz tries to sprawl out of it but Tyson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Diaz manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sloppy strikes from Diaz. Those never looked like landing.
Tyson doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Diaz throws a shot from downtown. Tyson moves away and avoids it.

Tyson shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Tyson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Diaz is keeping the position for now.
Diaz seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Tyson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Diaz swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Tyson stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Nick Diaz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Diaz throws out a loose jab but Tyson uses good head movement to avoid it.

Tyson changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Diaz looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tyson tries to advance to mount but Diaz instead regains half guard.

Tyson closes this distance looking for a takedown but Diaz circles away.
Tyson looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Diaz is fending him off so far but Tyson persists. Nope, Diaz circles away and we're back to standing.
A looping hook to the body misses from Diaz. Tyson does a little dance to reset his feet.
Tyson uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Diaz.

Diaz fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Tyson manages to avoid it.
Diaz comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Horrible takedown by Tyson or perhaps it was just good defense by Diaz which made him look bad.

Some wild striking there from Diaz.
Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Tyson circles away quickly and effectively.
Nick Diaz is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tyson.

Tyson displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Diaz throws out the jab.
Diaz throws a series of punches but Tyson avoids them all with ease.
Tyson fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Tyson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Diaz but Diaz pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Nick Diaz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Diaz defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Tyson.
Diaz throws a hook but Tyson avoids it easily.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Diaz lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Orlando Tyson has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Tyson is defended easily by Diaz.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Orlando Tyson.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Tyson, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
