Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Paul Bruens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Droop (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Bruens comes to the cage accompanied by River Below. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Paul Bruens!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, George Droop!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Kenichi Hosakawa and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Droop jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Droop lands with a straight right. Bruens didn't see that one coming.
Droop ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Bruens moves away.
Bruens shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Droop sprawls well. Droop wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Bruens gets slowly back to his feet.
Droop moves out of range of the strikes.

Droop drives through and clinches with Bruens against the cage.
Droop gets underhooks to prevent Bruens's takedown attempt.
Droop throws a punch but it's blocked by Bruens.
Bruens fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Paul Bruens. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Bruens blocks an uppercut.
Droop misses with a punch to the body.
Droop doesn't land with the attempted body shot.

Bruens jumps into guard, dragging Droop to the mat.
Bruens is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Droop trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Bruens is on top in guard.
Droop looking to hit a scissor sweep but Bruens is one step ahead there.
Droop wants to control but Bruens passes easily into half guard.
Bruens trying to pass the guard but Droop defending well.
Droop wants to control but Bruens is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Bruens working over Droop with some ground and pound. Droop looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bruens wants to take a breather but Droop is having none of it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bruens trying to mount his opponent but Droop defends it.
Bruens stalling.
Bruens trying to pass the guard but Droop defending well.
Bruens looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

We're going to have a standup here because Paul Bruens wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Bruens lands a nice shot to the body.

Bruens darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Bruens is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Bruens is trying to control the action in half guard but Droop is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Bruens thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Droop's head.
Still in half guard, Bruens seems content to control.
Bruens wants to lay and pray for a moment but Droop keeps working.
Droop holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.
Bruens is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
Droop tries to get to full guard but Bruens has control of the leg.
Droop is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Bruens scores with a couple of nice shots.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bruens frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Bruens can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Droop is looking to escape.
Bruens looking to control and managing it successfully.
Droop is in a horrible position here. Bruens smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Droop tries to hold on but Bruens postures up.

Droop defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Bruens.

That's five minutes gone in the round.
Bruens in mount throwing good strikes here, bouncing his opponent's head off the canvas.


Droop is rocked!


It looks like George Droop has been cut.
Bruens loads up on a couple of big shots to the head that have Droop scrambling to escape. He can't get free though and several more unanswered shots from Bruens land to the head. The referee has no choice but to stop the fight. Bruens stands and salutes the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 5:32 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Paul Bruens!

After winning the bout, Paul Bruens thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
