PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Knockout King (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John John Sosa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sosa has a pretty significant injury - he really shouldn't be fighting right now but he's a warrior and he's here none the less! Knockout King has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 6 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Knockout King!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, John John Sosa!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Illya Tyunina and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from King is defended easily by Sosa.
Knockout King seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Sosa looks gassed!
King shoots in looking for a takedown. Sosa tries to sprawl out of it but King keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Sosa manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

King feints and as Sosa raises his hands in defense, King changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sosa looking for a sweep. Not yet Sosa, not yet.
Sosa is trying to control the position but King postures up.
King wants to get up but he can't break Sosa's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
King stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sosa swivels though and keeps the full guard.

King gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
King tries to land a front kick but Sosa steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

A head kick misses from King.
King shoots for a takedown but Sosa saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knockout King. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sosa throws a head kick that misses.
Sosa defends well against a solid takedown attempt from King.
Sosa tries for a takedown but King sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
King lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Sosa backs up against the cage.
King fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
King throws the kick towards the body but Sosa avoids it.
A solid leg kick lands there for Sosa.
Sosa keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

The fight stays on the outside here - King looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
King gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Sosa counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
King is trying to break free.
Sosa is pressed up against the cage. King has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Sosa down to the mat. Sosa avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
King wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

Sosa manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Sosa is trying to hold King in close to prevent damage but King has managed to pass into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sosa slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Sosa had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. King defends it easily.
King won't allow Sosa to sweep him here.
King loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
King trying to control but Sosa is working from the bottom.
Sosa wants to stand but King is controlling the position.

Sosa trying to keep a closed guard but King is proving a slippery customer.
King is looking to stand up but Sosa won't let him.
King wants to control from the top but Sosa keeps moving.
Sosa wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and King manages to pass to side control.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Sosa is trying to get back to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Knockout King will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Sosa checks a low kick from King.
King shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
King stuffs the takedown attempt from Sosa. Sosa gets slowly back to his feet.
King changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Sosa tries to avoid it but King manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Sosa to the ground. Sosa escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Knockout King. That's going to take a lot out of him.

King throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Sosa was covering up waiting for the punch and King finishes the takedown easily into guard.
King throws a big right hand that misses.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
King content to stall in guard here.

King lands a couple of elbows.
King wants to control from the top but Sosa keeps moving.
Sosa throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
King trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Sosa tries to land a sweep but no joy.
King is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
King seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sosa for as long as he can get away with.

King knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Sosa on the ground.

Knockout King has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sosa.
King tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Sosa manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
King is looking to clinch but Sosa is avoiding it.
King will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
King really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
King wants to clinch.
King closes this distance looking for a takedown but Sosa circles away.

King moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
King fails with an attempt to clinch.
King tries a head kick but it misses.
King swings away with a leg kick that misses.
King misses with a wild combination.
King tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Sosa closes the distance and clinches.
King is trying to force a seperation but Sosa has the dominant position.
Sosa tries to work over King's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Knockout King dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Sosa circles away from the clinch attempt.
King fails to land the takedown.

Sosa moves into the clinch.
Sosa wants to take the fight to the mat but King manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
King has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Sosa after a bit of a struggle.

Sosa gets a trip takedown into half guard.
King wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
King is working hard here to advance position.

Sosa not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Sosa wants to control but King is keeping him busy.

Sosa decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
King throws a leg kick but Sosa moved away.

Sosa gets in close and instigates a clinch.
King wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Sosa lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for King!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sosa with a couple of short strikes.
Sosa looking to ground and pound but King is blocking nicely.
Sosa is trying to control here but King has managed to regain half guard.

King preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

Sosa gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
King shoots in for a double leg but Sosa sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Sosa shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in King's guard.

King will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
King wants to sweep but no luck.

Sosa is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Sosa trying to control the position from guard on top but King is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. John John Sosa wasn't active enough on the ground.
King scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Sosa takes the fight into the clinch.
King tries to pull guard but Sosa forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
John John Sosa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think King has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
