PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Chan Lei (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and James Laurent (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lei's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Rising Dawn. Laurent has chosen Megadeth - Symphony of Destruction as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Chan Lei!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, James Laurent!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Albert Achterberg and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Laurent lands a jab to Lei's midsection.
Lei fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Lei gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Laurent makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Lei shoots and misses
and Laurent counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Lei thinking.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chan Lei. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Lei takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Lei feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Lei postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Laurent is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Lei, into his guard.

Lei looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Laurent really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lei. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lei is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Laurent gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Lei tries for a takedown but Laurent circles away easily
and Laurent makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Laurent keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Laurent cracks Lei with a right hand to the side of the head.
Laurent misses with an attempted mid kick.

Lei manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Laurent on his heels. He'll look to pass Laurent's guard now, I'm sure.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Laurent can do anything to dispel that myth.
Lei stands and throws Laurent's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Laurent can't do much from the bottom here.

Lei thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Laurent tries to escape but Lei is in control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lei has hold of Laurent's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Laurent tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Lei cranks the arm and Laurent screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Laurent, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

An out of breath Chan Lei thanked his loyal fans in his post fight interview, giving them credit for his success over the course of his career.
