PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Austin Duran (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dwight Schrute (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duran kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genuis that is Still Fly. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Austin Duran!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Dwight Schrute!
The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schrute is looking to clinch.

Schrute clinches up with Duran and pushes him back against the cage.
Schrute misses with a knee to the head.
Duran can't break the clinch.

Duran successfully pulls guard.
Schrute is looking to stand up but Duran won't let him.
Schrute must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Duran has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Schrute can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

and Duran counters with a series of strikes. Schrute will be more careful next time no doubt.

Schrute closes the distance and clinches.

Schrute breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Schrute stuffs the takedown attempt from Duran. Duran gets slowly back to his feet.
Schrute looks to land a body kick but Duran moved away.

and Duran counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Duran wants to control from the top but Schrute keeps moving.
Schrute throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

Duran drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Schrute manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Duran has Schrute in his guard.
Duran not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Duran looks to land a combination but Schrute avoids it well.

Duran misses with a takedown attempt - Schrute sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Duran takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Duran wants to control but Schrute is keeping him busy.
Duran stalling away here and it's allowed Schrute to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Duran lands with a big left hand that may well have hurt his opponent. Can Schrute hold on?!

Duran really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Schrute.

Duran has good solid back control here.
Duran's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Duran, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
