The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simmons shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Gawrolek counters with a shoot takedown. Simmons fights it but they end up in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Simmons is looking for a triangle but Gawrolek pushes his legs off easily.
Gawrolek wants to get up but he can't break Simmons's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Gawrolek wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Simmons's closed guard. He's half up but Simmons has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Simmons pivots and extends the arm, Gawrolek falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Simmons! Well done that man!
