Melanko comes to the ring accompanied by "This Eminence Front Life I Lead " 2Pac vs The Who. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jay Melanko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Piki Hoki!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Hogan, Damien Edna and Eliza Hachem.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hoki fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hoki tries to close the distance and clinch but Melanko swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Melanko lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.

and Melanko counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Hoki has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Hoki there as he acknowledges the shot.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Melanko has gone for a leg lock! Hoki slips out almost immediately though and dives into Melanko's guard.

Melanko has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Hoki can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Hoki got a little sloppy there for a moment and Melanko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Hoki has managed to get both his arms back between Melanko's legs - danger averted.
Hoki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Melanko escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Hoki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jay Melanko dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Melanko has hold of Hoki's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hoki tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Melanko cranks the arm and Hoki screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hoki, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Jay Melanko!
A relieved looking Jay Melanko thanked the fans for their support and gave the usual line about them being amazing. They seemed to believe that he actually meant it.
