PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Nathan Rehel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Billston Lush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rehel comes to the cage accompanied by Encore. Billston Lush told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Nathan Rehel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Billston Lush!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rehel rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Lush moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Rehel jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Rehel keeps the fight on the outside.
No joy there for Lush, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice sprawl there from Rehel as Lush shoots in.
Rehel is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lush.

Rehel scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Rehel decides to stand back up.

Rehel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Lush is looking to improve his position but Rehel isn't that keen on the idea.
Rehel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Lush can't escape the position.
Rehel controlling from the full mount.
Lush is trying to escape the mount.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rehel pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.

Rehel working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Lush manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Lush is looking to improve his position.
Lush trying to control from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Rehel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Lush is just riding it out for now. Rehel eventually gives up the hold.
Lush moves into full guard.
Rehel has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Lush has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Rehel is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Lush.
Lush gets back to half guard.
Rehel trying to control the action but Lush is working from the bottom.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Well, if Rehel is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Lush wants to control but Rehel is keeping busy.
Rehel knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Lush on the ground.
Rehel takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Rehel trying to pass the guard but Lush defending well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nathan Rehel dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Rehel shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Rehel was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rehel tries to control but Lush wriggling away.
Lush tries to lock up and control but Rehel gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Rehel could do with loosing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Rehel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Lush regains half guard.

Rehel is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Lush manages to get to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rehel works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rehel trying to control from half guard but Lush is working away.
Rehel is really struggling to control Lush but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Lush wants to sweep here but Rehel controlling him for the moment.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Lush is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Rehel throwing strikes from guard but Lush blocks nicely.
Rehel wants to control from the top but Lush keeps moving.

Lush has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Rehel can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Lush is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Rehel stands up and waves to Lush to follow him.

Lush closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Lush tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lush has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Lush is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rehel is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Rehel prevents Lush from moving into mount.
Nathan Rehel overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Lush decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Lush shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Rehel counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Lush moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.

Lush working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Rehel doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Rehel manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

A close second round but Billston Lush will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


A solid leg kick lands there for Rehel.
Lush throws a series of punches but Rehel moves out of range.
Nathan Rehel is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Rehel feints and as Lush raises his hands in defense, Rehel changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rehel is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Rehel scoring with punches to the head and body.
Lush keeping moving, preventing Rehel from controlling successfully.
Rehel cracks Lush with a solid left hand.
Rehel postures up and lands a big shot to Lush's brow.

Lush is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

Rehel stands and steps away. Lush gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Lush takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Rehel shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Rehel won't allow Lush to sweep him here.

Rehel avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Lush is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Lush wants to get back to his feet but Rehel is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Lush looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Rehel is defending well. Lush quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Rehel has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Lush celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
