PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Denis Opal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and That Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). That Guy will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of London, Denis Opal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 12 - 0, fighting out of London, That Guy!
The judges for this bout are Paul Tew, James Ackerman and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Guy shoots for a double leg takedown but Opal sprawls well. He's pushed Guy's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Guy shoots in looking for a takedown but Opal manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Guy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Opal closes this distance looking for a takedown but Guy circles away.
Opal displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Guy.
Denis Opal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of That Guy.

Guy darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.

Guy looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Guy wants to stand up but Opal has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Opal is trying to control but can't.

Guy drops an elbow to the side of Opal's head.
Guy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Opal's head.
Opal might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Guy sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Opal defending well though.
Opal is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Guy jumps into side control!
You can see the frustration on Opal's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Guy tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Guy has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Opal parries the strikes from Guy easily there. Guy is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Opal to escape.

Opal sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.

Opal is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Opal is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Guy trying to control the position from guard on top but Opal is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Guy is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Guy wants to control from the top but Opal keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Denis Opal.
A looping hook to the body misses from Opal. Guy does a little dance to reset his feet.
Opal tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Opal shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Guy as he avoids it easily.
Guy misses with a takedown attempt - Opal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Guy fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Opal checks it well.
Guy fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Guy throws a head kick that misses.
A slapping leg kick lands for Guy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That Guy dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Guy changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Opal looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Guy prevents Opal from escaping the position.
Guy tries to score with some ground and pound. Opal controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Guy lands some shots froms side control.

Guy looks up at the clock and then as Opal takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Guy smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Opal regains half guard.
Guy is looking to take a break and control but Opal is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Guy looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Opal keeps control of the position for the meantime.

Guy thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Still in half guard, Guy seems content to control.
Guy throws a big elbow that misses, also allowing Opal to regain full guard.
Guy is looking to stand up but Opal won't let him.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Guy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Opal is pulling down on Guy's head to control his posture.
Guy trying to control but Opal is working from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by That Guy.
Guy fails with the takedown

and Opal counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Opal.
Guy jumps guard but Opal turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Guy turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Opal is looking for a sweep.
Opal struggling a bit here.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Guy trying to control the action but Opal is working from the bottom.
Guy creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Opal sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Opal manages to work his way to half guard, despite Guy's best efforts.

Guy throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Guy not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Guy content to control rather than advance.
Opal wants to control but Guy is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Opal wants to get back to full guard.
Opal wants to get back to his feet.
Opal is staying active underneath Guy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. That Guy wasn't active enough on the ground.

Opal drives through and clinches with Guy against the cage.

Opal fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Opal is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Guy is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Opal pulls him back up using the underhooks.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Opal has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Guy avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That Guy showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Opal tries to kick Guy off but Guy keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Guy is looking for a kimura but Opal is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Guy to get the leverage.
Opal is not content to let Guy control the position.
Guy thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Opal's head.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Opal is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Opal works his way to full guard. Good work.
Guy wants to control from the top but Opal keeps moving.

Guy wants to stand and escape but instead Opal has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Denis Opal wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Guy misses with a jab, cross combination.
Denis Opal seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Opal lands a nice looking body shot.
Denis Opal is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Opal throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Guy fails with a takedown attempt.
Guy has a takedown stuffed.
Guy shoots in looking for a takedown. Opal tries to sprawl out of it but Guy keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Opal manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Denis Opal has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of That Guy.
Guy takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Opal keeps the fight on the outside.
Opal changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guy tries to avoid it but Opal manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guy to the ground. Guy escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Guy misses with a takedown attempt - Opal sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Opal defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Guy.
Opal is looking to clinch.
Opal shoots in for a takedown but Guy shows good takedown defense.

Guy throws a hook but Opal blocks it.

Opal fails to land the takedown.
Opal stuffs the takedown attempt from Guy. Guy gets slowly back to his feet.
Guy fails in his attempt to clinch.
Guy tries to score a power double leg takedown but Opal sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Guy somewhat.
Opal shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Guy defends it nicely.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Opal closes this distance looking for a takedown but Guy circles away.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to That Guy.
I've got Guy winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
