PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Perrin Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jens Lapidus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Dog The Nine. Lapidus has chosen The Raising Fighting Spirit as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Perrin Jones!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jens Lapidus!
The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Lapidus as he jumps to the side.
Lapidus misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Jones wants to clinch up but Lapidus keeps it at a distance.
Lapidus throws a sloppy head kick and Jones moves out of range easily.
Jones shoots in looking for a takedown. Lapidus tries to sprawl out of it but Jones keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Lapidus manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Horrible takedown by Jones or perhaps it was just good defense by Lapidus which made him look bad.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Perrin Jones. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jones shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Lapidus shoots in and bounces Jones off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Lapidus would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Lapidus not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Jones is trying to control the position but Lapidus postures up.
Lapidus is looking to stand up but Jones won't let him.

Lapidus really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Jones. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Jones has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Lapidus can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Jones working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Lapidus doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Lapidus manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Jones has his foot on Lapidus's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Lapidus works his way back into a safe position though.

Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Lapidus.
Lapidus tries to clinch but Jones is having none of it.
Jones avoids the clinch attempt nicely.

and Lapidus counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.

Jones tries to reverse the position but Lapidus maintains control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Jones has his takedown stuffed

and Lapidus counters with a takedown into side control.

Despite being in the dominant position, Jens Lapidus just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Jones shoots and misses

and Lapidus counters by clinching up.
Jones dodges an elbow strike from Lapidus.
Lapidus tries a knee to the head but Jones blocks it.
Jones tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Lapidus just stands there and leans against the cage.

Lapidus breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

and Lapidus counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Jones trying to keep a closed guard but Lapidus is proving a slippery customer.
Lapidus is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Lapidus stays in close to Jones's body and controls the position.

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Lapidus feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Jones is looking for a triangle but Lapidus pushes his legs off easily.
Lapidus controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Lapidus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Jones swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Jones looking for a sweep. Not yet Jones, not yet.

Jones escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lapidus gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Lapidus stands up and waves to Jones to follow him.
Perrin Jones has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

No joy there for Lapidus, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Lapidus swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

Lapidus moves into the clinch.
Lapidus throws a knee to the head but misses.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.

Lapidus escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Lapidus pinned against the cage. Lapidus gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Lapidus counters into the clinch. Nicely done.
Lapidus connects with a knee to the head.
Jones fails to pull guard.
Lapidus lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Lapidus lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Jones backwards.
Lapidus is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Lapidus tries to land a knee to the head but Jones blocks with his arms.

Jones gets caught flat footed, as Lapidus shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Jones had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Lapidus is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Jones Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Lapidus's back instead.
Jones is looking to control Lapidus but Lapidus is wriggling around and keeping busy.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Jones has his arm under Lapidus's chin here. Game over son! Jones squeezes tightly and Lapidus is forced to tap out!
