PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Franco (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tony Maggio (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Maggio has chosen Speak Softly Love as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eddie Franco!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tony Maggio!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Franco avoids a punch combination nicely.
Good leg kick by Maggio there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Maggio lands a really nice looking cross but Franco seems unphased.
Maggio is looking to slow Franco down with leg kicks.
Maggio tries to close the distance and clinch up but Franco swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Maggio throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Maggio cracks Franco with a right hand to the side of the head.
Tony Maggio seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Donk. Maggio catches Franco right on the button with a cross.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
That kick from Maggio tenderised Franco's leg. Franco is trying to keep his angry face on.
Maggio uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Franco has time to react.
Maggio feints and then cracks Franco's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Franco down.

Maggio forces Franco back against the cage and clinches.
Franco wants a takedown.
Some stalling of biblical proportions here from Maggio.
Franco is looking to take this one to the mat.
The referee calls for Maggio to work.

The crowd are getting on Maggio's back here. They're not happy about his lack of aggression in the clinch.
Maggio scores a nice knee to the body.
Franco looking for a takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Franco. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Maggio lands an elbow inside.
Maggio prevents the takedown attempt.

Maggio unloads a knee to the mid-section. Franco lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.
Franco is breathing heavily.
Franco is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Maggio is defending well.
Maggio is struggling to control the position.
The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Tony Maggio.
Franco tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Maggio throws a head kick that connects with a bit of head and a bit of hand.

Maggio has taken the fight to the clinch.
Maggio lands a nice elbow.
A bit of stalling here from Maggio.
Maggio scores with an uppercut up the middle.
Maggio is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

Maggio gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Franco.
Maggio lands a knee to the head there! That was nasty!
Franco drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Franco has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Maggio avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Franco goes for a takedown attempt but Maggio pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Franco has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
A nice leg kick lands there from Maggio.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Horrible takedown by Franco or perhaps it was just good defense by Maggio which made him look bad.
Maggio throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Franco on the side of the head.


Franco is rocked!
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Maggio thows a body kick. Franco tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Maggio throws a quick head kick that knocks Franco silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Maggio is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:27 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Head Kick). Tony Maggio!
During a confident post fight interview, Tony Maggio thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
