PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Steve simmons (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyson Syrus (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). simmons has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Tyson Syrus looks lathargic as he enters the arena. Wake up son, you're about to have a fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Tyson Syrus!
The judges for this bout are Summer Carpenter, Damien Edna and Steve Erwin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Syrus gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Syrus is working for takedown but simmons is calmly controlling the position for now.
Syrus is looking to control simmons's arms but simmons gets an underhook and turns him. Now Syrus has his back to the cage.

simmons manages to break the clinch.

Syrus closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Syrus looks gassed!
simmons wants to stand back up but Syrus manages to pass into side control.

Syrus decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Syrus dodges the punch combination from simmons.
Steve simmons seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
simmons rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Syrus moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
simmons avoids a kick to the body.
simmons really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Syrus closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
simmons looks like he's trying to stand up.
Syrus thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed simmons's head.
Syrus passes to full mount!

Syrus won't let simmons get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
simmons is working to get back to half guard.
simmons is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
simmons manages to regain half guard. Good work.
simmons wants to get back to his feet.
simmons slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Syrus advances position into side control!
Syrus wants to lay and pray for a moment but simmons keeps working.
simmons tries to bench press Syrus off him but Syrus keeps the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Syrus content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
simmons regains half guard.
simmons moves into full guard.
simmons wants to get back to his feet but Syrus is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Syrus slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Syrus stops simmons from standing up.
simmons will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Syrus advances to half guard.
simmons punching from the bottom.
simmons wants to get back to his feet.
Syrus is keen to just control but simmons is a slippery customer.
simmons is trying to stand back up but Syrus is controlling him
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Syrus passes the guard and advances to mount!
Syrus is landing with some decent strikes but simmons is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
simmons is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.
simmons has given up his back.

You know, I was talking to some of our celebrities at ringside tonight and they were split right down the middle on who was going to win this fight.

simmons manages to stand up with Syrus still on his back. Eventually Syrus drops to his feet and we're back in the standing position.

Syrus decides to stand up.

Syrus shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in simmons's guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Syrus won't allow simmons to sweep him here.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Syrus thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
simmons keeping moving, preventing Syrus from controlling successfully.
Syrus pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. simmons is keeping the position for now.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tyson Syrus dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

simmons throws a left and a right that both miss

and Syrus counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Syrus wants to control from the top but simmons keeps moving.

Syrus drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Syrus jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Syrus should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
simmons wants to stand up but Syrus is controlling him.
Syrus stands and throws simmons's legs to the side, diving into side control.
simmons pushes Syrus away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Syrus gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.

Syrus has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
simmons doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Syrus decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in simmons's guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Syrus wants to control from the top but simmons keeps moving.

simmons is looking to stand back up but Syrus counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by simmons.

Syrus tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Syrus has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Syrus tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
simmons is trying to work for a sweep but Syrus has mounted him!

Syrus is working to isolate an arm here. It's a choreographed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Syrus extends the arm and simmons is forced to tap!
