PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Matthew Hosking (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jack Wintzloff (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hosking's entrance music is War Machine. A fine choice. Wintzloff has chosen slint as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Matthew Hosking!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jack Wintzloff!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Summer Carpenter and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wintzloff misses with a takedown attempt - Hosking sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hosking.
Wintzloff misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
The crowd cheers as Wintzloff lands an impressive looking overhand right. Hosking doesn't seem phased though.
Hosking shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Wintzloff but Wintzloff pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Hosking tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Wintzloff tries a head kick but it misses.
Hosking tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Wintzloff manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Hosking changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Wintzloff tries to avoid it but Hosking manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Wintzloff to the ground. Wintzloff escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matthew Hosking. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wintzloff pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Hosking throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Wintzloff moves into range and clinches up with Hosking.

Hosking pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Wintzloff sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Wintzloff keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Wintzloff is staying active underneath Hosking, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Wintzloff wants to improve his position but Hosking is controlling well.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hosking closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Wintzloff lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.

Wintzloff postures up in Hosking's guard and throws a big left but Hosking blocks it.

Wintzloff scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Wintzloff gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hosking tries to close the distance and clinch but Wintzloff swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fight stays on the outside here - Wintzloff looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Hosking shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Wintzloff manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Wintzloff shoots in looking for a takedown but Hosking manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Wintzloff's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Wintzloff throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hosking has Wintzloff pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Wintzloff manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Hosking's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Hosking drives through with a takedown into Wintzloff's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Wintzloff bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hosking's guard.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Hosking has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Wintzloff finds it's way round the side to connect with Hosking's head.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Hosking rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wintzloff moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Wintzloff closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Wintzloff has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Hosking is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Wintzloff yanks on the arm and Hosking is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Wintzloff.
