The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne throws a left and a right that both miss
and Cherry counters with a nice uppercut.

Cherry leaves Payne with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Payne shoots in for a takedown but Cherry shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.

Payne throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Cherry tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Payne is in Cherry's guard.

Payne isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Cherry stacks Payne on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Cherry!

Horrible takedown by Payne or perhaps it was just good defense by Cherry which made him look bad.

Cherry takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.
Cherry stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Cherry wants it to stay on the feet.

The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Payne checks a leg kick.
Payne throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Payne misses with a takedown attempt - Cherry sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Payne feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Buster Cherry wins by unanimous decision!
Buster Cherry decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
