The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Beefheart lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Matsumoto circles away quickly and effectively.
Beefheart misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Matsumoto.

No joy there for Matsumoto, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Matsumoto accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Matsumoto has gone for a leg lock! Beefheart slips out almost immediately though and dives into Matsumoto's guard.

Beefheart has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Matsumoto is working away from the top position though.

Matsumoto lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Matsumoto slips a nice elbow through Beefheart's hands, connecting with Beefheart's forehead.
Beefheart is not content to let Matsumoto control the position.
Beefheart tries to get to full guard but Matsumoto has control of the leg.
Matsumoto throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Matsumoto moves nicely into side control.
Matsumoto misses with the ground and pound.
Matsumoto postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Beefheart takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.

Matsumoto has worked his way into a potential kimura here. Beefheart is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Matsumoto yanks on the arm and Beefheart is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Matsumoto.
