PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Toby Lamb (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iso Nyrkki (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Lamb comes to the cage accompanied by Saltwater. Iso Nyrkki told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

The judges for this bout are James Atkins, Andrew Berry and Steven Brown.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nyrkki looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A head kick from Lamb lands but Nyrkki takes it in his stride.
Nyrkki takes a kick to the side of the head.
Nyrkki takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Toby Lamb seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Lamb is looking to clinch.
Lamb throws a head kick but Nyrkki moves out of range.
Lamb throws a sloppy head kick and Nyrkki moves out of range easily.
Nyrkki takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Lamb dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Nyrkki. That did some damage!
Good leg kick by Lamb there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Lamb throws a nice inside leg kick.
Nyrkki shoots for a takedown but Lamb saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Lamb lands a head kick. Nyrkki smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Lamb buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Lamb darts in and clinches Nyrkki up against the cage.
Nyrkki drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Lamb manages to break the clinch.

Lamb lands with a kick to the temple. Nyrkki shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Lamb drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.

Lamb is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Nyrkki doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Lamb has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Nyrkki is trying to keep Lamb in close.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Horrible takedown by Nyrkki or perhaps it was just good defense by Lamb which made him look bad.

Lamb rushes Nyrkki and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Lamb breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Nyrkki changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Lamb tries to avoid it but Nyrkki manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Lamb to the ground. Lamb escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Lamb throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Nyrkki.

Lamb bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Nyrkki is trying to control Lamb's posture but Lamb avoids it.
A bit of a lull in the action here.

Nyrkki is looking to regain half guard here but Lamb keeps moving and retains side control.
Nyrkki manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Nyrkki is keen to just control but Lamb is a slippery customer.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Nyrkki looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Despite being in the dominant position, Iso Nyrkki just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Lamb fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lamb lands a nice leg kick that just misses Nyrkki's sensitive parts.

and Lamb counters with a good, hard body kick but Nyrkki shrugs it off.
Nyrkki tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Lamb swivels and escapes.

Nyrkki must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lamb is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Nyrkki has his hands clasped together but Lamb extends an breaks Nyrkki's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Lamb.
