Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mario Matiss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sammy Spishak (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Matiss might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Ennio Morricone - The Ecstasy of Gold. Spishak has chosen Sleeping with Sirens as his entrance music. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mario Matiss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sammy Spishak!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Paul Gruel and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Matiss throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Matiss tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Spishak manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Matiss is looking to land body kicks.
Matiss misses with a kick to the body.
Mario Matiss seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Matiss moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.

Spishak fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Matiss, pushing him back against the cage.
Spishak avoiding damage as Matiss throws knees to the body.
Matiss looking to throw knees to the head but Spishak is blocking nicely.

It looks like Sammy Spishak has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Spishak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Matiss throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Spishak blocks it with crossed arms.

Thud! ouch! good body kick from Matiss - that will leave a mark!

Matiss closes the distance and clinches.
Matiss looking to throw knees to the head but Spishak is blocking nicely.

Spishak pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Matiss lands with a nice body kick.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Matiss throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Spishak.
An inside leg kick from Matiss misses.

Matiss throws a wild body kick that Spishak sees coming a mile off.
Matiss throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Matiss lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.

Matiss gets a clinch.
Spishak blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Spishak tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Matiss smiles and moves away.
Matiss throws a low kick but it's checked well by Spishak.
Matiss throws a body kick that misses.

Spishak shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Matiss can't escape the position.
Matiss holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Spishak tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Poor strikes thrown by Spishak there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Spishak throwing strikes here but Matiss is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Spishak looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

Spishak tries to control but Matiss wriggling away.

Spishak jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Matiss is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Matiss and Spishak has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Spishak shoots for a double leg takedown but Matiss sprawls well. He's pushed Spishak's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Matiss walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Spishak checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.

Spishak tries for a takedown but Matiss sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Matiss lets loose with a powerful body kick. Spishak will feel that in the morning.

Spishak throws an elbow that misses. Matiss uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Spishak's guard. Nice move by Matiss!

Spishak working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Matiss doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Matiss manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Matiss is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Spishak isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Matiss stacks Spishak on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Matiss!

Matiss throws a leg kick which misses Spishak's front leg but catches the back leg as Spishak tries to avoid it.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Matiss, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
