PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Roger Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Razta Oni (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gracie comes to the cage accompanied by Im On One. Razta Oni will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Roger Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Razta Oni!
The judges for this bout are Jeff Smith, Roger Salmon and Colin Fray.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Oni throws a left and a right that both miss

and Gracie counters by moving into the clinch.
Gracie tries to pull guard but Oni won't allow it.
Gracie keeps control of Oni as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gracie fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Oni is pressed up against the cage. Gracie has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Oni down to the mat. Oni avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Roger Gracie. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Gracie throws a front kick aimed at Oni's knee but Oni avoids it well.
Gracie thows a body shot but no joy.
Oni misses with a two punch combination.
A combination from Oni does no damage.
Oni with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Gracie to score with a decent uppercut.

Gracie feints and as Oni raises his hands in defense, Gracie changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Gracie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Oni gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Oni really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gracie working for a triangle but Oni defends it easily.
Oni trying to stand up but can't free himself from Gracie's guard.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Oni wants to stand but Gracie has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Oni gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Oni got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gracie has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Oni has managed to get both his arms back between Gracie's legs - danger averted.
Gracie has a closed guard, preventing Oni from standing up.

Oni stands up and waves to Gracie to follow him.

Oni swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Gracie counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Gracie dodges the punch combination from Oni.
Oni misses with a double jab.

and Gracie counters with a nice uppercut.
Oni connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Oni swinging wildly here.
Gracie throws a right hand that Oni ducks under and follows up with a left that Oni also avoids with ease.
Oni lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Gracie backs up against the cage.
Oni throws a series of punches but Gracie avoids them all with ease.
Oni looks gassed!
Oni looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Gracie stuns Oni with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.

Gracie lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.

It looks like Razta Oni has been cut.
Oni has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Gracie finds it's way round the side to connect with Oni's head.
Oni looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Oni avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Oni misses with a looping left.
Some wild striking there from Oni.
Oni works over Gracie's head and body with a nice combination.
Oni slips under a jab.
Oni will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gracie tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Oni was well out of range. Poor timing from Gracie.
Gracie blocks a jab.

Gracie connects with a crisp jab.
Oni misses with a series of wild punches.
Gracie fails with a takedown attempt.

Gracie instigates a clinch.
Gracie keeps control of Oni as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Gracie is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Oni to keep the fight standing.
Oni tries to break the clinch but Gracie is controlling the position.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Gracie tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Oni just stands there and leans against the cage.

Gracie pulls guard successfully.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Oni is posturing up here but Gracie has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Oni tries to roll out but it's too tight and Oni has to tap! Slick submission there by Gracie!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Roger Gracie!
Roger Gracie decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
