The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Left hook, right uppercut from Kirk.

Rock tries to keep at a distance but Kirk has taken the fight into the clinch.
Kirk misses with some punches.

Rock breaks from the clinch.
Kirk ducks under a wild hook from Rock.
Rock misses with an attempted mid kick.
Rock misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Kirk.
Kirk misses the shot to the body.
Rock blocks a head kick by Kirk.
A looping hook to the body misses from Kirk. Rock does a little dance to reset his feet.
Rock throws a body kick, spinning off balance
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.

Kirk shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Rock's guard.

Rock fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Kirk on the side of the head.

Kirk tried to score with a low kick but Rock checks it.
Rock misses with the combination.
Rock goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
An inside leg kick from Kirk misses.
Kirk throws a right hand that Rock ducks under and follows up with a left that Rock also avoids with ease.
Rock throws a sloppy head kick and Kirk moves out of range easily.
Kirk throws the left hand but Rock avoids the punch easily.
Rock throws a right and a left that both miss.

Kirk is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Rock's half guard.

Kirk is looking to advance position but Rock won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kirk works his foot free and advances to mount.
Rock is desperately trying to improve his position but Kirk has a good base and remains in mount.

Kirk is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Rock has managed to escape the submission attempt.

Kirk tries to push Rock's head away but Rock is holding on tight.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.

Kirk scores with a head kick.
Kirk takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Kirk buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Kirk tries to score with a low kick but Rock moves his leg out of the way.
Maddy Rock seems to be getting the better of the standup.

Rock throws out a loose jab but Kirk uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kirk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Kirk stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rock swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kirk throws a strike but Rock rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Rock wants to stand but Kirk has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Kirk tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Kirk looking for a guillotine here but Rock defends easily.
Rock has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Kirk is proving hard to escape from.
Rock must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Kirk is working for submissions here. He's thrown up his legs looking for a triangle but Rock frees his head nicely. Oh but Kirk has switched to an armbar! Rock is tapping furiously! Lovely submission there!
