PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Floyd Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Oleg Nikitin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Nikitin has chosen Slipknot - The Heretic Anthem as his entrance music. Oleg Nikitin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Floyd Johnson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Oleg Nikitin!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, William Peck and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson fails to land the takedown.
Nikitin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Johnson at a distance.
Nikitin lands a slapping body shot.
Johnson gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Nikitin counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Nikitin lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Johnson looks to land a combination but Nikitin avoids it well.

Johnson drives through with a takedown into Nikitin's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Nikitin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Nikitin preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Nikitin is on top in guard.
Johnson keeping full guard, as Nikitin tries to pass.
Johnson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Nikitin on the ground.

Nikitin is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
Nikitin trying to control but Johnson is working from the bottom.
Nikitin passes easily into side control. Nice work.
Nikitin is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.

Nikitin is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Johnson has escaped the position, nice work there.
Johnson gets back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nikitin stops Johnson from getting back to his feet.
Nikitin trying to control from half guard but Johnson is working away.
Johnson is trying to stand up here but Nikitin is controlling him well.
Johnson won't allow Nikitin to pass to mount.
Nikitin controlling the pace.
Johnson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Johnson tries to get out of the position.

Nikitin is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Johnson is just riding it out for now. Nikitin eventually gives up the hold.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Johnson wants to control but Nikitin is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Nikitin is trying to control. Johnson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Nikitin works his way into full mount!
Johnson tries to reverse the position but Nikitin maintains control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Nikitin looking to control but Johnson is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Nikitin thowing strikes but they're hitting the gloves, not doing any damage.

Nikitin has hold of Johnson's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Johnson manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Johnson is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Nikitin has taken his back.
Nikitin is trying to stick to Johnson's back but Johnson is turning into Nikitin. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Nikitin's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Johnson.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Nikitin is trying to keep Johnson in close.
Johnson throws a big elbow that misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Oleg Nikitin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Nikitin lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Nice sprawl there from Nikitin as Johnson shoots in.
Johnson misses with a shot to the body
and Nikitin counters with a stiff right hand.
Nikitin lands a right hook to the body.
Nikitin jabs at Johnson's body.
Johnson misses with the combination.
Nikitin scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Johnson drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Nikitin misses with a double jab.
Johnson takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
Nikitin stalks Johnson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Johnson's face. Johnson staggers backwards, shaken.
Oleg Nikitin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Nikitin tests Johnson's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Johnson takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Floyd Johnson is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Nikitin connects with a looping right hand.
Oleg Nikitin is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Good exchange - Nikitin coming out on top.
Nikitin lands a right hook to the body.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Nikitin sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Nikitin.
Nikitin scores with a punch to the head.
Nikitin getting the better of the striking in that exchange.
Nikitin lands a jab.


Johnson is rocked!
Johnson missing with a left hand there. Nikitin was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Nice body punch from Nikitin.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Nikitin misses with a double jab.
Nikitin slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Johnson shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Nikitin as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Floyd Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson moves forwards but Nikitin connects with a nice, crisp jab.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nikitin fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Johnson on the side of the head.
Johnson swinging wildly here.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown. Nikitin tries to sprawl out of it but Johnson keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Nikitin manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Nikitin throws a quick inside leg kick.
Johnson misses with a takedown attempt - Nikitin sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Nikitin connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

Nikitin lands a big uppercut and Johnson crumbles to the floor! The ref thinks about stopping the fight but Johnson looks OK. Nikitin waves Johnson back to his feet!
Oh Johnson is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Johnson shoots in but Nikitin avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Johnson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Nikitin drops Johnson with a beautiful combination! Johnson stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Nikitin is looking for the KO!
Johnson tries to score a power double leg takedown but Nikitin sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Johnson somewhat.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Nikitin fakes the leg kick and throws a superman punch. It's knocked Johnson out cold! Brutal finish!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:08 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Superman Punch). Oleg Nikitin!
Oleg Nikitin is the new lightweight champion!
Oleg Nikitin very nearly forgot to thank Steel Penn's Laundry 93% amongst all the excitement of his win but just as the interview came to a close, he screamed their name. Hopefully he'll get a few nice freebies in the mail as a thank you.
